Hello everyone - I love hearing the news from those parents with students just starting their music majors and some whose kids are through grad school and beyond. I’m right smack in the middle. For new parents, you can expect to start hearing from your students about impossibly difficult music theory and aural skills classes very soon.
So the update - due to her voice prof’s illness, my daughter transferred studios and is beginning her junior year with her 3rd voice prof. First studio was Tuesday (she didn’t have to sing, probably next week) but said it was fun and friendly, and first lesson was yesterday. She said it was very good and that they spent the whole lesson doing vocalises to explore her range and movement. (She brought her pianist, but didn’t need to.) They talked quite a while about potential rep and roles for auditions for the spring opera, which are coming up in about a month. Although my daughter chose to attend a school with grad students, the new teacher is encouraging her to go big in the upcoming auditions, with some pretty difficult rep. Haha - wish they’d had this discussion a couple of months ago… but she’ll have to hustle and see what she can be ready with. (Works well under pressure?)
Anyway, so far so good! Hopefully all will go well in the new studio for the next 2 years. She also got to move out of the dorm and is very happy with her roommates and apartment. Loves cooking for herself.
