I taking Econ and my teacher told me to use "Economics Theory and Practice". She didn't say which edition, but the generic picture she put on is the eighth edition. I accidentally bought the seventh edition, which came out three or so years earlier, but I've heard that there's not a lot of difference between editions? Any input? Thanks.

One edition usually doesn't make a difference with my books, so you might be fine. Check with your teacher, just to make sure. Or, ask someone to see their textbooks and compare the table of contents or something.

I'm going to sort of high-jack this thread...
I've got a calc book- it's by the same authors and all,
but different title (missing the second part of the title).

Johnson- I'm not sure, sorry... probably not, though.

OP- I don't think it should make a difference. In fact, my old Chem teacher preferred an older edition of our book, and would photocopy pages from it! I think that you're all set!

OP- I wouldn't worry about it that much, tagging on to LesOs, I've had a teacher do the same (physics).

To better state my question (sorry for for highjacking again), my book is Finney, Demana, Waits, etc.'s "Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic"
Mine just says "Calculus" but is by the same authors and publishers (sort of- one source I have says it is, one doesn't, but I trust the one that says it is more).

Does anyone know the difference between the two versions (or if my 1999 version is just different from the 2002 version)?

Thanks for your advice(s)! I'm bumping this thread, but I'm pretty confident that one edition won't matter (I've checked the TOC, and they are the same), so hopefully the text should pretty much be the same??

For certain disciplines old editions are actually better, since the new editions are watered-down for pedagogy.

But if your teacher assigns a lot of problems from the textbook, you might want to get the right edition to make sure you're doing the right ones.

the page numbers and such could be off as well on the new textbook. It shouldn't be a problem though if your teacher rarely uses the book the in class
