New vs Old Scores and an Upset D

YankeeGirl -- You are lucky she has scores from old SAT I. My son's Critical Reading Score is very very low while others are high; however he was unable to take old SAT I in Jan. due to conflict. Hopefully when he retakes, CR will improve; otherwise, we might need to reconsider schools he's hopes to apply to. His March Math and Writing scores are similar to Oct. PSAT but the CR score is yucky. He will retake in June but hope we get copy of the questions and answers back soon. But rest assured you are not the only one experiencing some disappointment.

YankeeGirl--We had almost the identical result with our S. I agree with all the posts above. He is going to give the SAT a break for now and retake in the fall. BTW, Duke also said they'd take the best combined score from the old and the new SAT.

Agree too. I am curious if any other parents are wondering about how valid a pencil & paper writing test is in this day and age? From what I see this generation does all their writing on a computer with tools like cut and paste, etc. It just seems that times have changed and while writing is extremely important your ability to manipulate the computer tools to improve yor writing is standard in schools and workplaces and is a skill in and of itself.
