New Year, New Look for College Confidential!

What happened to the day in the date for the MOST RECENT column? It only shows the Month and Year now. It used to show you the day as well so you could tell exactly when the last post was made. This was very helpful and save you the trouble of going into the thread to see if there was an new post.

Please bring the DAY back into the MOST RECENT column.

Still trying to figure out the changed interface. Is there a place to go to find general support information? On my phone, I didn’t care for the app but used the regular website, now it doesn’t give me the option to to go the last post in a thread (or at least I can’t figure out how). Any pointers/tips or do I just need to change to the app?

Hang in there, folks. There’s still a lot of work going on to get everything working properly!

Way, way, wayyyy too much white space and scrolling… things are too far apart. And I don’t see an efficient way while in a thread to hop to other commonly used forums (the “top forums” section at the left is filled with a banner ad – but maybe that is a bug that will be worked out). The amount of scrolling required is tiring, though. I am going to go explore my settings to see if I have any choices in this view in the new world…

How do I get to my old Control panel? Where could tell which of the threads I was following had updated?

And how do you edit a post?

And what’s a “guru meditation?”

Ah, good BB edit still works.

When you hover over your post when you are logged in, a little thing (wheel? flower?) appears at the upper right side. You click on it and it gives you the option to edit. There is a time in minutes on it – maybe how much longer you have to edit?

Is there a reason that when I switch from forum to forum, it is showing that I haven’t logged in?

Definitely some technical tweaks occurring right now and we do apologize for that. Scoutsmom, that “guru meditation” notice is basically a “service unavailable” error likely linked to the automatic “save draft” feature. As for editing a post, you should see a black gear icon when you hover over your post. Please note the edit window is currently set to an hour, but will likely be scaled back to less time (similar to the previous site). Your control panel can be accessed by clicking your username at the top right of the screen. That is your profile page, but will contain a notifications link on the left where you should be able to view watched threads. By clicking the orange Edit Profile button, and then clicking the “Edit profile” link you will see the option to set new notifications. There will be a “Notification Preferences” link on the left side. Sounds like a lot right now, I know…but you’ll get it

In the old forum design I was able to set my preferences so that most recent posts to a thread would appear on top. That way I did not have to scroll to the bottom to click on the last page of the thread every time I wanted to read recent posts of a thread I was watching. Is this no longer possible? It will be an impediment to reading and watching active threads.

I hate this new layout.
Why I hate the mobile site: the white is painful, there is no way to see my posts (there used to be a “my posts” button- that’s gone), you can’t go to the last page anymore (do you understand how long some threads are?), and it’s really, really hard to read.

Why I hate the new regular site: the white is PAINFUL, can’t figure out how to edit, it’s way too much like Facebook now.

I don’t normally mind change. It’s whatever. You were definitely NOT going after the established base of CC users though. I think you just alienated a lot of long-time users to be completely honest.

I also foresee the “likes” and “helpfuls” turning into another popularity contest (remember how bad the “greenies” failed)?

My post count seems to have spiked since this change - are old High School Life posts now being counted? Why the change?

Wow, yes, I gained about 4,000 posts! I wonder if all posts (including Café, etc) are now being counted.

I can’t see any indication when I am logged in that I have posted on a thread when I am scrolling through (at least I don’t recognize whatever should be flagging that). I use that a lot when I hop in to look at latest posts – if I saw the red dot (I think it was a dot?), I knew I had been interested enough to post on it before… now I can’t figure out which ones I posted on when scrolling through. But maybe I just am not recognizing it among the new icons…

I also can’t see which colleges have had updates since the last time I logged in on the college page. I used the ‘green dot’ a lot – would hop to the college page to check and see if the forums for the colleges my kids attended (or were highly interested in at the time) had been posted to since last time I was on. Now it all looks the same, and I have to click through to the college threads (and scroll down…) to figure it out.

Lenitus, my kitty could be your kitty’s twin sister!

What is “recent activity”? The messages look personal – like they are being posted on people’s walls… I wonder if there is a privacy setting on that… it doesn’t seem like the types of messages meant for everyone to read. And does anyone know what the little flames mean? I can’t tell from hovering over them, can’t click on them…

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in here.

First, @Lenitus and @Roger_Dooley and the entire technical team…Congratulations! It’s about time! The changes are FANTASTIC!

Second, I want to remind posters here that people make changes not systems. Remember that when posting and do try to be kind, understanding and supportive. The road to this day was filled with hardship and personal sacrifice. Constructive criticism is great. But please remember that the folks you are talking to here give their very best so this forum thrives.

Finally, I think I may still be an Administrator on the forum. The real Administrators might want to fix that 8->
