New York City ===> Charlottesville

first, i dont drive, and second nor do my parents....sucks huh

OK....how about this...cheap Chinatown bus, 40 round trip from NYC to DC .Now all i need is DC to Charlottesville and back. What cheap modes of transport do u UVA students know about getting from Charlottesville to DC and vice versa?

i think that Globalist deserves some kind of special recognition award from this site, there seems to be nothing he can't answer and he goes to great lengths to help people out, so, if nobody else has done it yet: Thank you Globalist, and a special round of applause from me to you, not too many people take the time to be that helpful (me included since i'm totally off-subject of this entire thread)to a bunch of kids! :)

Yes, Globalist, thanks for taking the time to call and help me.

But i need this answered: "OK....how about this...cheap Chinatown bus, 40 round trip from NYC to DC .Now all i need is DC to Charlottesville and back. What cheap modes of transport do u UVA students know about getting from Charlottesville to DC and vice versa?"

DC-Charlottesville---------->Greyhound bus? DC China town bus?

Thanks Illnevergetin.

Brklyn2Cornell, all right, check out HooHasIt. There might be some people who are willing to carpool w/ you from DC - possibly even from NYC. (But as the site says be cautious when transacting since non-UVa people have access to the site too.)

http://www.hoohasit.com/ride.php

Here's another option for the future. The UVa Club of NY usually plans an event for incoming First Years in the late summer. In years past, we've taken them out bowling, or played softball and had a picnic in Central Park, etc. You'll probably be invited to it, and it's a great way to meet other New Yorkers going to UVa. Perhaps, you can meet people who are driving down who are willing to take you with them.

Does the UVa Club of NY reach out to all UVa students in the NY Metropolitan area? We're in Northern NJ and I know my son (2010) would probably like to attend the end of the summer events you mentioned, Globalist.

By the way, I'm also grateful to Globalist and others (esp. Cavalier302) for all their assistance. There is so much we've learned from you!!

Yes, they are all great! And id definitely go to that UVA event in NYC! Keep me informed! I checked out HooHasIt...and it doesnt have people going at the time that i need.

JMParent, I'm not sure if students from Northern NJ are invited. The NJ Chapter might do its own event. I'll look into it.

Bklyn2Cornell, you should go ahead and put up a posting in HooHasIt requesting a ride and see if someone answers it. You might get lucky.

As for other options, perhaps there's a cheap (Greyhound) bus from DC to C'ville?

There's one option left. Greyhound NYC ====> Charlottesville = $86 round trip if and only if 7 day advanced purchase. I NEED TO KNOW MY FINANCIAL AID PACKAGE FIRST BEFORE I WILL VISIT. Its ridiculous how everything is so crammed together....i dont know...maybe they will give me terrible aid.....if that will be the case, then i will rule out UVA...seriously.

JMParent,

So I talked to the President of the UVa Club of NY, and in the past, we didn't include incoming students from NJ since the NJ Club probably does its own thing. Nonetheless, we might reach out to students in Connecticut and NJ this summer. If your son wants to come to our event, email the UVa Club of NY at uvanyc@uvanyc.org or our Executive Director whose office is in the Yale Club. Jennifer's email is jbecker@yaleclubnyc.org.

Thanks so much for looking into this for us, Globalist! As we are only 12 miles from NYC and the NJ club is based in Princeton, it would be better for us to go to NYC. In addition, the NY website has much more detailed and up to date information.

Cool. I'm sure Jennifer would be happy to include you in the summer event. If you don't hear from her by the middle of the summer, give her a call at 212-286-8744.
