new york city engineering colleges

Hey whats up everybody? I'm looking to transfer into a new york city from nassau community college. Right now I'm finishing up my freshmen year at a school up in boston, and I'm transferring to nassau next semester. My major now is mechanical engineering, but my community college doesn't offer that and I think I'd like to do electrical engineering (which it DOES offer) then I'm planning on finding a school in the city. Can you guys reccomend me some good schools?

Columbia would probably be the best
There is also…
City College of New York (CUNY)
Cooper Union possibly but I dont know about transferring in
Polytechnic Institute of NYU
Manhattan College

Theres also Stony Brook, but that is further out in long island

Stonybrook is actually one of my top choices, it’s only an hour from my house (I’m from long island) and I know that it has a reputation.

Do you think you could tell me which of those have the best reputation? In order from best reputation to worst reputation. I’m honestly afraid that I’ll pick a school and graduate from it and when I go to apply for a job they look at me and say “I’ve never heard of that school before.”

Now that you mention Columbia though, maybe I’ll look into that a little more.

Columbia
Stony Brook
Polytechnic
Manhattan / City College (about same level)

I would put Cooper Union really high but I dont know how transferring would be

Cooper Union is by far the most respected and most rigorous engineering school in the city. Columbia is also very good, and Polytech also has a good reputation. Stony Brook is more well known for science, but its engineering program is also supposed to be very good. You might also want to check out City College, as it is ‘the’ engineering school of the CUNY system.

I’m interested in engineering and also want to study in NY. I’m looking at most of the schools mentioned above… Cooper Union, Macaulay City College, Stony Brook, and Columbia are on my list

“I’m honestly afraid that I’ll pick a school and graduate from it and when I go to apply for a job they look at me and say “I’ve never heard of that school before.””

then don’t go to stony brook. when i transferred to cornell, all the non-NYers thought sb was a community college. unless you’re going to stay in ny, i think you need some place with way better name recognition.
