New York Excelscior scholarship question

So i was born in Queens, but have lived in Pittsburgh for most of my life. My dream school is Queens College, but it isn’t cheap for out of state students. If I attend Queens College for one year, would I then be able to apply for the Excelsior scholarship? Or do you have to live in New York your whole life?

Where do your parents live? If you are a dependent students, the residency of your parents will matter more than where you live.

You need to be a resident of NY to be eligible for the Excelsior Scholarship.

You are a resident of Pennsylvania so you don’t qualify…and you won’t qualify after a year in college either…because you will still be a resident of Pennsylvania…because that is where your parents live.

@sybbie719 can you clarify!

Op is not eligible for Excelsior. Op’s Parents must live in NYS for at least one year before Op can be eligible for NYS aid. Op will not be an independent student in NYS until s/he is 35 years old.
