I am really interested in UF. I know a few people that go there and I know that they absolutely love it there. I feel like it would be a great school for me. However, there is one thing that is holding me back. I don't know how much truth there is to this, but I heard it is like a 3 hour cab ride from the school to the airport. But I saw there is an airport in Gainesville so how can it be that far? What is the situation?

I live in new york too, but when I visited my cousin who went to UF, we flew into Orlando which is a two hour drive from UF. The Gainesville airport from what I saw, looked very small and had very small planes flying in, but I guess you could fly there. Hope this helps

Depending on the time of day and where youre coming from, its about a 15 min cab ride (about $20+) to the GNV airport.

The get to the Jacksonville airport (JAX), its about 1.5hrs.

To get to Orlando (MCO), about 2hrs.

If you plan ahead, its sometimes cheaper just to fly out of Gville. But Jax does have jetblue (which I love to use when flying to nyc…its cheaper.)

Its not a hassle…but TSA at the GNV airport is ridiculous. Not even major hubs like JFK and MIA are so strict!

Good luck at UF!

I’ve flown with Gainesville airport a couple times. It’s not more than 20 minutes from UF, and I don’t think the TSA was specifically strict.

Gainesville does have an airport, but there are not too many direct flights because of its small size. So you can be dropped off from a plane really pretty close to UF, but if you fly from Jacksonville, which is a major, major international airport, you can generally get cheaper, direct flights, so its often times worth it. Or Orlando’s another good option, depending on where you’re going.
