CSUF is taking it’s senior class to NYC next week (spring break) to do a showcase. It is one of the areas that we have never explored, and we’re thrilled to offer it! We have had positive response from agents and casting directors, and are excited to show our stuff.

I’ll ask the students to post about the experience as soon as they get a breather…it’s been a busy few weeks (opening the musical, rehearsing an upcoming [paid] event, preparing for midterms, and working up a showcase).

We have been very fortunate and blessed to have a department that has such faith in its students that they are sending us to NY to do this showcase. This experience has been stressful, but exciting. Our musical theater professor Mitch Hanlon has worked very hard to put together a showcase which is able to feature all nine of us in thirty minutes. Each student is given the opportunity to do what they do best, as well as a few group numbers which will hopefully will give agents and casting directors insentive to CAST US! The school has been extremely supportive creatively and finacially with this venture. We feel like the entire department is behind us and that this opportunity is one that will influence us past graduation. Many schools do showcases and many students are cast from them. Cal State is adding thier name to the list, and we hope to represent them as best we can. This school has a sterling reputation on the west coast, and we hope to show the east coast what they are missing out here.

So the trip was a huge success. Each of our nine students received at least one appt. callback; and most received numerous "keep in touch" requests. There were 25 casting directors/agents/managers who attended.

Two of the three boys were invited to audition for Awesome 80s Prom next week (but we're back here in school now...).
