new york times article on sports and liberal arts colleges

this article freaks me out. there seems to be lots of overlap at the top colleges which makes admissions unpredictable. there has to be a better way

<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/21/sports/ncaafootball/21haverford.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/21/sports/ncaafootball/21haverford.html</a></p>

It's not just rough on the coaches as the article would have you believe, it's tough for the kids and their parents, as my nephew's situation showed us a couple years ago.

Strung along by his top choice as a football recruit (ivy), lots of calls how much we need you etc etc, building the kid's ego, then dropped like a hot potato when someone else commits for the same position who's higher on the recruiting list. And had by this time (Feb) lost contact with lots of once-interested coaches. Although he ended up at another ivy (he was lucky and there was a lot of scrambling and sleepless nights) it wasn't close to the same and left a bitter taste in all of our mouths.

Another close friend's S was told how much one of the A,W,S coaches needed him, multiple trips, etc. Dropped in Feb of senior year, scrambled to find a small PA LAC, a good school where he could play football, but nowhere near an AWS.
