The best thing that this Harvard lawsuit has done, imho, is to dig out data hidden behind “holistic” doors and show them to the sunny world all the (non)secrets about Harvard admissions. Unfortunately, legacy would be one of the biggest white elephant in the room that neither side of the lawsuit would be talking about extensively. Thank you for the link.
It’s an opinion piece.
And worry more about your kids’ apps, that quality. Since so many are so surprised, it does seem some proper self vetting of what these colleges want in their admits is woefully lacking, from the get go. If you want a tippy top, understand they want the sorts who can find what IS there.
THIS:
Just saying, not everyone understands the quality of various applicants. It starts with accomplishments despite challenges. It’s not the challenges alone.
And bear in mind that race comments have their own thread.
Bottom line is that it helps to be first generation and it helps to be the offspring of an alum/big donor. It’s those in the middle who have their work cut out for them in admissions IMO
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
The moderating team agrees that this thread is acceptable since it has to do directly with college admissions. The TOS state, “Politics, religion, and similar controversial topics should be discussed only as directly applicable to college matters.” The title of the thread is the title of the newspaper article.
Having said that, @lookingforward is correct that there is only one thread on CC in which race may be discussed, so please bear that in mind.
