New York Times Spelling Bee, anyone?

I don’t understand the 2 letter lists…(I’m feeling particularly thick today). can you explain? What does AT-1 (for example) mean?

Tells you how many words start with the two letters.

For example, today it says AB-1 that means one word starts with AB. And then AL-3 meaning three words start with AL.

If you want hints, go to the comments and pick the readers choice.

Do you know what it means when it says BINGO?

Not at all. Probably get Queen Bee a couple times a week. Our goal is pangram and Genius. QB is nice and gives us something to gnaw at, but it’s okay if we dont’ reach it.

Bingo means all seven letters start at least one word (I googled last week to figure that out!)

ALL HAIL THE NEW(EST) QUEEN BEE!* (of the day).

It’s the little things that can make your day, you know?

*thanks to spending nearly all day on it and using the user hints.

I’m still 9 words short of Queen Bee. I was happier when I just got to genius and bailed  Now it’s going to gnaw at me.

My kids (ds1 and DIL, who do it every day and turned me on to it last year) had no idea about QB and blew it off when I told them I made it the first time. The next day, he proudly proclaimed that they QB’d. lol I didn’t raise a competitive kid or anything.

Hah! Also nine words short right now. This one was a tough one from the start!

I’m now six words short of QB. I don’t think I’ll get there today.

seven and same.

Have been a huge fan of Spelling Bee for a year now. Am satisfied once I make Genius level and get the panagram, but usually make it to Queen Bee status every few days.
I was a subscriber to the Times for a while, and got add on subscription to Spelling Bee only for $3.47/month. That price has continued to be charged each month, even though I cancelled my Times subscription a few months ago. Don’t know if that price is still available, or just a special price at the time.

I just do the Spelling Bee that is in the print magazine section on Sunday. Don’t know if it’s harder or easier than the weekly Bee, but I can guarantee you I’ve never reached QB status!

I have an online subscription to the NY Times but I don’t have the separate Games (or Cooking) packages. So I can do the mini-crossword, letter-boxed, and Spelling Bee up until the point where it’s like, “Good job! Subscribe to keep going!” I’ve never known about the hints, but since I get cut off early, I don’t think I want to look into them. Since I could see myself spending a LOT of time playing the games (especially Spelling Bee) I’ve decided NOT to subscribe or I could see myself on that WAY too much. I also enjoy playing Sudoku there.

Much easier today. I already found 30 of the 32 words. Good luck, everyone. I checked on the words i missed yesterday. Should have gotten array and totally, maybe tartly and rotatory, but loblolly and rattly - never heard of them.

Loblolly is a very common species of pine tree around me. I should have gotten that one, but I don’t have a subscription to Games so once I got laboratory (pangram) it cut me off.

It’s words like “attaboy” that throw me. A couple weeks ago, it took “pfft.” Really???

Did not get loblolly but should have because I’ve seen it before. “Rattly” would be how something that rattles sounds. Annoyed at myself for not getting array.

Today’s is my H’s turn–we usually turn it over when we get genius and pangram, so now i’ll look at what I can add on.

There were a few words today that I never heard of. Agree on attaboy - how is that a word and others are not? I only got rattly by using the hints (and had to look at hints from several different commenters).

Once I have gotten to the point where I run out of time or energy, then I use the hints in the comments to try and finish or at least get a few more words.

@AustenNut, same!
