I have been admitted to NYU and CMC and want to study Economics.
However, there is a catch. I have been admitted to the Liberal Studies Core Program in NYU.
I have checked CMC’s Economics courses and they seem pretty solid. NYU is more known for its Stern Business School and I’m not sure if the Economics department is that good.
However I also believe that NYU has a greater reputation than CMC does. Keeping in mind that I’m an international student, what do you think offers me a better path for graduate schools and future employment (though I don’t think my undergrad would matter that much for employment). I live in Istanbul, so I’m used to the big city feel but Claremont is close to LA right?
I’m not in need of financial aid and this will hopefully continue. I also would like to at least minor in Politics or IR if not double major.
Thanks for all your answers!
CMC is .75-1.5hrs away from downtown LA depending on traffic. They’re both honesty great options. Do you plan on trying to get a job right out of college?
NYU Econ is still going to be good, but sometimes I get the impression it’s full of people who wish they were in NYU Stern (I have no factual basis for that whatsoever lol).
I plan to go to graduate school after completing my undergraduate degree. Does that make a difference?
CMC, especially if you’re planning to go to grad school.
(No, NYU does not have a better reputation than CMC. It might be more well-known in other countries, but CMC is one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country.)
@IDKWhatIWant I know you said fin aid doesn’t matter but if you plan on going to grad school maybe save money during undergrad? What’s the price difference / year?
The difference isn’t that big. NYU is 71k whereas CMC is 66k.
How can I be sure? I mean, people have told me NYU is much more prestigious due to its name brand and size but I’ve also been told that CMC is well-known amongst specialists and employers.
