New York University Stern school of Business in and outs--- only Stern

Hey guys
How are yous?

So who wants to transfer into New York University Stern school of Business and who wants to transfer out?

If you are the applicant for transferring in, when did you submit your applications and did you complete it? What are you stats?

I want to transfer to NYU Stern but I still need to complete the prereqs. I'm hoping to apply next year for Fall 10' and attain junior standing there.

So I am guessing there are not that many people who want to transfer to New York University Stern School of Business for Fall term of 2009?

So the deadline for New York University Stern School of Business is not until later. Who submitted their application already and completed it, meaning sent all their supporting credentials

I sent in my stuff last month to Stern. So i'm just sitting here twiddling my thumbs waiting for my rejection letter.. :-(

Hey everyone! I'm currently a freshman at NYU and I was considering an internal transfer to Stern, but guys... transferring to the full time Stern undergrad program is next to impossible. Their curriculum is structured from day one of Welcome Week. If you want to be at NYU, transfer to CAS and major in Economics and minor in Business Studies, which gives you the opportunity to take Stern courses. Plus if you're worried about prestige, first of all, it's NYU to begin with, which says a lot, and also, CAS's Economics department is ranked around 10th in the world among 200 top research universities. Don't waste your time writing applications for rejection from Stern.

bdl108 - I think we'll take our chances applying to Stern (Fall 10' for me, since I'm a freshmen currently). It doesn't cost too much to apply ($70-80) and it also doesn't take too much time to fill out all the app work. Chances are slim to transfer but it's worth a shot to know that you tried. As for the coursework for Stern, I'm almost done with all the prereqs.

I also don't see the point in switching majors to Economics just to take some courses from Stern at NYU.

I agree with you MakeBank24... What is your stat SixStringAddict if you dont mind telling

bdl - I completely disagree. Stern is for Business majors, CAS-Econ is for liberal arts majors, and you're telling these Business majors to give up and switch to something they're not interested in for the sake of getting into NYU?! Why not tell them to go to SCPS and study Management instead...it doesn't make sense.

I'm studying Econ through NYU CAS because I'm interested in learning about economics, not business. If you want to study things like Finance, Marketing, Administration, Accounting, Business, etc, then Stern is for you. If you're interested in Economics as a liberal arts program and care about Econ rather than a pre-professional Business degree, CAS is for you. Telling people to switch majors for the sake of getting the NYU degree just doesn't make sense. I'm in CAS-Econ and my boyfriend is in Stern (not for Econ) and our classes are totally different.

Best of luck to all NYU applicants. If you don't get into Stern, I'm sure you'll find other good Business schools.

@lum2008

I go to Rutgers. (sophomore)

College GPA = 3.3ish (kinda low but i'm double majoring so i'm getting swamped with the excess course load)
SAT 2050
High School GPA = Don't remember

Some of my EC's are:
Internship, Captain of my south asian competitive dance team, couple of other officer positions in some clubs, I help run charity bicycle meets every summer. my bro graduated from stern a couple of years ago. Can't think of what else of the top of my head. I'll probably get rejected.

What about you?

You're right. There is a huge difference between CAS and Stern programs. It is completely true that most people trying to transfer to Stern are looking for pre-professional degrees. However, in terms of the Economics major, there can't be much difference between a Stern Econ major and a CAS Econ major. Both offer Economic Policy and Economic Theory concentrations. I'm not telling anyone to do anything they don't want to do; I was just offering an alternative for people who might want to be here but want to avoid the ridiculous competition to get into Stern. For the most part though, you're correct and I was wrong in what I said.

Hi SixStringAddict

I go to University of Michigan (LSA)
but for my Freshmen year, I was at Florida International University. So I am actually trying to transfer again.
The reason why I want to transfer again is because my dream school was Stern from high school but I did not get in after high school because I screwed up my high school grades when I was senior. So I went to Florida International University and got 3.94 (GPA) the first semester and took 20 credits. The second semester, I got 4.0 (GPA) and took 18 credits. So I applied to Stern for the second time, but I was unfortunately denied again (hope this does not happen again). So I applied to University of Michigan which was my second choice and got in. I thought I would be happy here but I am not that happy because first of all, although it is a great school and good professors are here and good education is provided, I do not like the environment. For example, Ann Arbor has nothing but University of Michigan. I want to study at a school where I can study but at the same time, get an internship and learn something that is not taught in class. Since Stern is very close to Wall Street, if I get in, I am planning to get an internship and study at the same time which would be amazing.
So here at University of Michigan, I received 3.94 (GPA) for the fall semester and took 15 credits and so far for this semester, I have 3.94 (GPA) also. I fulfilled all the prerequisite courses and I have good extracurricular activities like internship at one of the big financial companies last summer at NYC headquarter, president of a club, treasurer at my fraternity, and I play soccer for a team for intramural soccer.
Also, I think I got a good recommendation letter from my professor. He told me he wrote it very good so it should be good.
I am worried because my high school records are not that good. For example, my high school GPA, SAT scores are horrible. Also, I am worried what if they do not like the fact that I went to Florida International University for my freshmen year.
I am like praying to god every day and night that I get in this time but I do not know because I know how competitive it is and since I am trying to get into for Junior year, I think it is harder than getting into for Sophomore year although I am not sure if my theory is true lol.

I really want Stern.

So Good Luck to me and you, SixStringAddict!!!

Ya, good luck to you too! I think by now, Stern would look more at your College stats and how you did during high school is not going to matter as much. You have a great chance though.

Stern is my dream school as well but hope we have better luck this time around

Yea thanks GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!

Does anybody else want to comment on my stats?
