New Zealand Study Abroad Options

My school offers transferable credit through the University of Auckland and the University of Otago, Dunedin. If anyone knows about these schools, could you offer some pros and cons specifically for an international student?

Also, should I study abroad from Feb-June, July-Nov, or the whole academic year?

All input appreciated!

Hi,

I’m from New Zealand and I’m pretty familiar with both of these schools.

Whether you should attend from Feb-June, July-Nov or the whole year depends on what classes you want to take and when they are available (most are single semester, some are full year), and also on how long you can afford to stay. I am not sure what the difference is fees-wise between the two for an international student but the cost of living in Auckland is much higher than in Dunedin. Auckland is a lot bigger and more ‘cosmopolitan’ than Dunedin, whereas Dunedin is very much a ‘student city’ and has the best of the South Island right on its doorstep. Otago has a bit of a reputation as a party school, Auckland has a more ‘serious’ image, but of course it’s up to you to make what you want out of it.

They are both very good academically, which subject(s) would you be looking at studying whilst there?

Thanks for the help! I’m interested in studying economics. I think I’d only go for a semester. Which one has better (hotter) weather?

hey there -

check out abroad101, they have reviews of study abroad programs in those places in new zealand! super helpful.
