Newark or Camden?

Hi guys

I have been admitted to the school of arts and sciences at Newark and Camden. I intend to do Biological sciences. I am an international student. I would like to know which campus you guys would recommend based mainly on academics.

Just for your own safety between the two I’d say Newark…

What do you mean by “for your own safety”? Are you referring to crime?
By the way I wont be staying on campus.

If I were you I would love on campus.

Camden was voted for the worst city to live in a few years back. Crime rate is sky high, beating out cities such as Atlanta and Detroit.

Newark is a little better. Just dont walk outside at night by yourself and arm yourself with pepper spray or mace. I dont mean to scare you but it is a very dangerous area.

Thanks for the advice guys. Are the academics in both campuses the same?

idk about the academics but like the others say, be careful. Im from jersey and i can tell you that both places are dangerous, although newark is slightly less so

People usually rank the three campuses in terms of quality as: New Brunswick (being the “best”), Newark, and then Camden. I do hear that the law school in Camden is great though (just a random tidbit)

I’d go with newark.

Newark on-campus is not that bad. Theres always police around and you need basic street smarts (aka common sense) and you’re fine. I’ve been to rutgers newark for frat parties and it’s a good time if you know people. Yes, I’ve walked around newark at 2 am and so were a bunch of other college kids. Once again, newark on campus is safe. Police are not *******s. They don’t bother with frat parties or drunk kids.

oh and from what I hear from multiple kids who attend newark say the school is very good. It truthfully doesn’t matter which campus you attend diploma wise, the diploma just says Rutgers. not what campus you got it from.

While it’s true that the city of Camden has lots of crime, it happens far from the Rutgers campus, which is next to the bridge into philly, near the waterfront with the minor league baseball stadium, the aquarium, Susquehanna concert center, the battleship New Jersey, etc.

Campus is very safe, unlike New Brunswick, where I hear about students being robbed all the time.

Small class size makes the Camden campus a pretty good choice, and Philly is a 5 minute train ride away.

^ That is true about the Camden campus, I live near Camden and
most of the “crime” occurs down near the Pennsauken region (Federal Street, 32nd street)

I actually think the waterfront area is pretty nice! Cute bars and great concerts! I wasn’t afraid walking there because there are always people around.
