Newb Questions on Applying to Pre-med

Please bear with me, as I have recently entered a college-frenzy mode (hence why I am here). I am a to-be senior, class of 2006. My dream career would deal with some sort of cancer research. From here on out, I am quite clueless as to how I am to accomplish this goal through applying to colleges.

I understand that many colleges have a pre-med program. I came here because JHU supposedly has the best one. Now, I've been to JHU's site many times, and have not seen anything related to pre-medicine in their schools of study. Would I be applying to the school of Sciences and Arts? If so, where does 'pre-med' fall in place?

I also understand that pre-med has specific programs such as the BME. What other special programs are there? If there is part of the college's website I missed that contains any of this info, a link will be fine.

According to collegeboard.com, JHU's ED acceptance rate is over 50%. Now, this seems extremely high for such a prestigious college. Is this percentage of acceptance applicable to specific programs that are more competitve, such as pre-med?

I live in Central New Jersey and would like to have contact with a regional representative. Yet again, I am clueless on this information. Where can I find or what is the contact information for the regional representative for me?

As you can see, I am in need of lots of help. Please do.

Many colleges including JHU do not have "Pre-Med" majors. You'll be entering a major such as Biomedical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Neuroscience, or any other major of interest to you. Being a Pre-Med is only saying that after college you plan to apply to medical schools. There is a good pre-med advising system at colleges like JHU and others, but you wont specifically be entering a major called Pre Med at most places.

i suggest looking into the Public Health program at Hopkins... you get to take classes at the #1 public health school in the world and it is a great track to go about as a "premed"

Good Luck
