What's up guys?

I'm new to the site and I am hoping I can gain some knowledge or advice regarding my current situation. I'm going to be a senior in high school in September.

Anyways, I live in NY. As of right now, my main goal is to go out of state to college, preferably to California. I really don't know what my GPA is, but from the last 3 years of high school, I could say I got about an 80 cumulative average. It was probably a 81 freshman year, 80 sophomore year, and then 79 this past junior year. Horrible grades but I really slacked and I regret it. Wasn't really bad in school but mid terms and finals killed me. So what should be a 85 is turned to an 80 because of those mid terms and finals. I'm someone who's capable of getting 90's but I'm getting 80's because I slacked off. I don't know how colleges calculate GPA, but my grades should get me a 2.4 or 2.5 GPA correct? Not good but it's what I have to go with. My SAT was 1410. I am taking it again though, with hopes of getting higher.

I check collegeboard.com a lot, just looking at colleges in California and other states, just to see what percentage of 2.5 GPA's get into certain schools and what not.

I'm basically wondering if anyone can clear up the GPA and how colleges calculate it, also if anyone can suggest an out of state college in California, or any of those surrounding areas for me. And also, let me know if I'm delirious in thinking I can go out of state with my grades lol.

Thanks in advance.
