We have about decided to buy a laptop from the university, partly because we will be too far from Chapel Hill to facilitate repairs to an independently purchased machine. My question is about printers: do students bring their own printers? use the library's?? their roommate's??? I haven't seen this addressed and we are wondering if we should send our old but still functioning printer with her or if there is a better solution. Help!!!

I hear that you get $50 worth of printing at computer labs per semester. I personally am buying the printer/scanner/copier that UNC sells for a fairly cheap price.

I have a cheapo printer from Wal-Mart...it's a life saver for a procrastinator like me to have it right there....and it's nice for when you're trying to edit papers and end up printing them out multiple times in the middle of the night. We have a printing allotment from the school....of which I've used none this semester...there's usually a mile long line for the printers on campus. Personally I'd just go with a cheap printer....no real need for the scanner, copier, etc....had that my freshman year, but when that printer died, didnt spend the money to get those feature (which I never used) on the new one.

The School computer program (CCI) offers very good prices on printers, speakers, monitors, docking stations etc.

It should be detailed in the CCI package you receive, if not go to the CCI link on the Carolina webpage for more info.

You can print pretty much everything you need for free using various printers around campus. Unless you need to print a lot of color, don't but a printer.
