Hi everybody...
Reading these threads have been really great for us as parents. It has given plenty of insight as to what lays ahead. Our only child will graduate from USAFA prep school next month and we are excited about his move to the "hill."

Even though he hasn't had any issues with grades or obtaining his second nomination for the academy, the prep school says they will not reveal appointments to any C/C's until graduation day. I'm nervous because I think he is 5 to 10 pushups short of the requirements--althought he is within the requirements in all other areas.

I don't think our son is as nervous as we are, but I need a little insight on two things. Can he loose an appointment based on this physical shortcoming? Has a preppie every made it to graduation day and did not receive an appointment?

I can't speak with any authority, but I think he has a decent chance. I missed one PFA req. and still got in (working to correct that). It depends on how strong he is in other areas. Again, I do not have a lot to base this on, so listen to those with more experience over me.

Gosh, that's terrible!

I mean, Gosh, that's wonderful! :D

If USAFAP is anything like NAPS, if your son graduates, he will get into USAFA. Graduating, of course, pre-requires the passing of all physical fitness requirements.

I have never heard of a NAPS graduate being declined for USNA. I cannot imagine that USAFA would turn down someone who they invested in for a year and who passed USAFAP.

But hey! It IS the Air Force! ;)

Tell him to pass that PRT, and let not your heart be troubled. :)

thanks zaphod and raimius...your reply is encouraging. I will pass your advise on about PRT. I know he's worked and he still has to make it through the 3-day teamwork exercises (TX) before graduation. It's suppose to be a real challenge and gives C/C's a taste of BCT to come.
