Hi anyone out there. I'm new, and this site looked like a haven to share my ap/honors/college, etc interest with others. Anyway, good to meet some of you and here is my question: Hispanics are largely underrepresented minority in the nation. I'm an ap/honors kid of this group with pretty good grades so far, (i'm a junior) with only like 1 C grade for 1 semester on my overall transcript. I volunteer a student math tutor at school and a student sunday school tutor at church. I'm also going to Boy's State and some LeadAmerica conference in D.C. and i do other stuff like that. Anyone out there wanna give me a guestimate on how i might do on college admissions? I'm just shootin for the best i can get, would be nice to get accepted to UC berkely or Stanford or Harvard or something. Any help? thanks ^_^

If anyone can tell me any chances on top colleges: ivy, others, etc, i'm just shootin for the best i can get. Thanks

hmm...You have good grades, tough classes, decent ec's...
The only part i don't get is ur SAT's?
Were ur PSAT's this year? Not to burst your bubble or anything but even with a 1990--you don't have a chance at any ivy league schools. For an ivy or semi-ivy you really need a 2200+. Maybe look into the upper UC's... San Diego, possibly Berkley or UCLA but those are probably reaches...Your URM status can really only get you so far...
Good luck!

it doesn't matter if you're a URM for the UCs. the only thing that will help is if you come from a low socioeconomic background.

2200+ for the ivy? That shocks me out....noooo...

Thanks a bunch people! ^_^, finally some folks generous enough decided to do something more than just look at my message. much appreciated

FYI: Who's Who and "Nat Soc H.S. Scholars" are scams in that anyone breathing can get them. They are not honors and should not be listed on your college apps. Basically, those organizations are trying to sell overpriced books and certificates.

ECs and honors before h.s. have to be major before colleges would care about them. In general, colleges have no interest about things you attained before college. An example of something that they would care about would be if, for instance, you won an Olympic medal or had a solo Carnegie Hall concert while in middle school.

Typically, Ivies would expect a minimum of 600 on all parts of the SAT. Even with that minimum, very few students get in. That includes URMs. I have seen Hispanics with 1450 board scores, National Merit commended, be rejected by Ivies.

Ivies and similar colleges also expect to see major leadership in activities. Being a member doesn't count for much of anything.

Having at the very least a presidency of an organization and/or state or national recognition plus an average that is at minimum all As and Bs would give one a "lottery ticket" for Ivy admission. Keep in mind, however, that most Ivy apps have this plus probably board scores around 2100, and most still do not gain acceptances. That includes URMs.

What you're doing as president of the Chicano club would be important. What programs have you initiated? What impact have you had? If it's basically resume dressing, the club presidency wouldn't count for much.

Boy's State is nice, but to really stand out for the very top colleges, you'd also need to attain a top position at Boy's State such as becoming governor.

Your verbal SAT equivalent of 450 is very low for probably all top 50 colleges. The verbal SAT is the most important SAT score for all except places like Cal Tech (which virtually expect an 800 math score).

The verbal is the most important part of the SAT, regardless of proposed major, because at virtually all colleges, you would be expected to do a lot of reading and writing in any major.

If you are very low income, that could help boost you to a college in the top 50. However, you'd probably still need to raise your SAT verbal by at least about 100 points.

I see, Thanks so much for the input people. One more thing. considering my stats, what would anyone say about transfer stats? In other words, if i was to transfer and take some pretty good variety classes like foreign language, math (max out the community college's math dept.), some english, a science here or there, and maybe boost some test scores and such. I know its really rough info but any words will do. Now that i think about it, i'm kinda leaning more toward schools like Univ of Chicago, American U., Boston U., Boston C., UCSD/LA/Berkley, Univ. Southern Cali., and any other schools that have strong engineering/politics/business departments. That's kinda what i'm looking at for majors now a days. once again, i appreciate the help! ^_^
