newcomer to UC's

hey guys, i have a few questions

could i take courses in more than 1 college?

are there any course requirements? (besides the ones for your major) like do you have to take so and so number of humanity courses, etc.

im just starting to look at UC’s so if you guys have anything you think is important to say, go right ahead! btw, im in new york which apparently is a bad thing for uc admission

by “college” do you mean the colleges within a single university or do you mean different universities?

you can take courses at different universities to fulfill your requirements (there is a minimum of units that you have to take physically at UC’s though (at least for UCLA, but i’m pretty sure this is the same for the other UCs)

if you mean within the same universities, but different colleges, then yes. a person in the college of LETTERS and SCIENCES can take classes in the college of arts/architecture

2.

yes, you are required to take courses outside of the area of your particular major. for example, i am a life science major, but I am also required to take writing classes, history, etc.

Just so you’re aware, the OOS cost of UCLA is $45K this year, and is pretty sure to go up due to the CA budget crisis. Second, you can’t attend and then somehow qualify for in-state rates after a year or two.

UCLA is a great school for CA residents, but for $45K/year you could go to schools with more personal attention, smaller classes, etc.
