Newhouse School @ Syracuse University stats 2016

This school should have a separate entry in the college guides. It’s that different from Syracuse University. I recently saw the acceptance rate at around 8%; now I can’t find that stat nor others that I need. Anybody know most up-to-date admission stats, class sizes, etc.?
I found one that says 1290 SATs w/o writing, GPA 3.8 average. Sounds about right but I think the data is dated.
Also- is this school more renowned for its Journalism program than its film/cinema/video studies? I get that impression. Any insights would be appreciated

At freshman convocation this year I remember doing the math of the students applied compared to students accepted and I think it was 9%.
Sorry I wish I could remember the other stats and numbers!

I’d say probably Broadcast Journalism? So many sportscasters have come out of Newhouse. There’s a few journalism majors but I think Broadcast Journalism is one of the most well known reasons people come. The film/cinema/video major is called Television, Radio, Film and it’s a great program as well from what I can tell. They have a lot of resources.

(I just finished my freshman year in Newhouse this year)

It is also difficult to do an internal transfer to Newhouse.

Your stats aren’t bad, but to give your application more of an edge (then again, your extracurriculars could be great too), put a lot of effort into the essays. Show that you can write well, seeing as how it’s a journalism school. Show your interest in attending this school and whatever major you’re most interested in.

8%? It’s Harvard with <1300 SATs?

Newhouse entering stats for the class starting in 2015 were 400 acceptances out of 5,400 applicants.

@newhousedad are you sure it’s 400 accepted and not enrolled? Because I think the Newhouse school has roughly 1600 total students, which would be an average of 400 for incoming freshmen.

Three years ago when my son was accepted, one of the top admissions people in Newhouse told us they had 5,000 applicants, extended 800 offers and had 398 accept the offers. So it was a 16% acceptance rate.

It was hinted that the 75th percentile for the Univ is approximately the Newhouse average.
