Newsweek: 25 Hottest Schools

Yeah, Fordham is a GREAT school and I'm happy to see that it is on the rise. Before I went to a hoity-toity high school, I went to a public school where the top kids in the class all went to Fordham. Harvard was never even an option for them.

Even though Fordham is on the rise, most of the other schools were "hot" to begin with, like our friends Cornell and Princeton.

I'm actually surprised that anybody who spends a good deal of time on this site and takes interest in higher education hasn't heard of Babson.

Yes Princeton doesn't have major graduate programs (Law, business, medicine). It's more or less a LAC on steriods anyway.

Technically speaking, law, business, and medicine are properly considered "professional," rather than "graduate" programs. Ergo, Princeton has plenty of top-notch graduate programs, but no professional program offerings.

In this particular week, those of us down South couldn't care less about the hottest schools. Please give me a ranking of the 25 COOLEST schools. U. of Alaska-Fairbanks . . . you're looking really good right now!

how could ucla even be hot? its not!

haha gadad

I think the list is great. It highlights some lesser known schools with great programs. Babson is an amazing school that anyone interested in business should look at. It's a shame more people don't know of it. There are other schools on the list like this but I don't have time to mention.

cornell is only the hottest ivy because it accepts more than the others

As an incoming college freshman, I think this list is complete crap. It's foundation is pretty shaky, and worst of all, it plays too much into the stats game.

Hottest for rejecting you? Does that even need to be there?

Princeton as the hottest LAC? I expect this to give insight into some of the lesser known institutions. It barely did that.

I just want to see one piece of media regarding "hot" or "big name" schools actually leave out the ivies. I'm with one of the previous posters, the "new ivies" article was way better.

Most kids know that their chances at admission to the Ivies, are no different than their odds at winning the lotto, so why not give them something they can realistically reach for?

This article only reinforces why I stopped reading newsweek in the first place.

Everyone knows that Penn is the hottest Ivy right now...

30 years ago, kids applied mostly in their own state or region. We didnt have USNWR rankings. SAT scores were not such a HUGE factor in whether you were admitted. It was transcript and recommendations and your PERSONAL ETHICS that got you in (or out).

For me, my hook was military service, but that is another story. (And why I give generously to my alma mater because they "gambled" on me...my grades were up and down....but they had faith in my military experience giving me maturity...and they were right...I graduated with high honors.)

Kids back then applied to maybe.....MAYBE....three schools. Now its 10, 12 or more. Its insidious.

And the rankings and media pumping make it worse.

HIgh school counselors, parents, teachers and admissions officers should all STRONGLY encourage kids to consider fit.....and for each kid, that fit is something different...depending on course of study, interests, culture, geography etc....

Bates and Bowdoin are fabulous schools, but I would have been very unhappy in Maine. On the other hand, I would have been equally unhappy at a HUGE state school. But that is me.

The goal here in a perfect world is to find a perfect match for every kid.

It was nice to read a little praise for Tulane... New Orleans needs some positive press every now and then.

And Centenary making the list? (Two Louisiana schools; wow) Good for it... they've sent me nearly a million things in the mail and actually called me... shame they don't have a program I'm interested in.

Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill are both very hot now too.
About 102 degrees F. :o

Hottest for Rejecting You: Harvard.

I agree. That was hilarious.

"That Hansel is SO hot right now"

wrong thread

Hottest for Rejecting You :D

HAHAHAHHAHAHA!

I'd wanna add one more for Hottest for Rejecting you: CC Section called "What are my chances" :D (whoever used it can't deny it right? ;))

I don't get how a military academy (or maybe Texas A&M) did not get "Hottest on the War on Terror"...

"Hottest in the war on terror"...? that's absolutely ridiculous

hottest business school. I would think U Penn Wharton or U Mich Ann Arbor...
