Newsweeks 2006 Top 1000 Public High Schools

So what's wrong with this picture?
No Calif. school in the top 10 or top 25 ... Lowell made #26
So few Calif. schools in the top 200
So many UC's in the top 10 national public universities.

I shouldn't complain. My school is ranked #1 now in the SF bay area
(excluding Lowell in SF, of course) and I'm going to UCLA!

Where are schools like Thomas Jefferson (Va.) on this list? I'm not even from virginia myself, but I don't think many people can argue that TJ isn't one of the top five high schools in the country, public or private.

I couldn't agree more. I'm from Baltimore, and even I know that TJ is an excellent school. Just more proof that this ranking is absolute crap.

And speaking of Baltimore schools, this list is severely lacking. Nothing against City College---I know it's a good school---but there are better schools in the area that are absent from the list (Western, Poly, Pikesville, etc.). Even more proof that these rankings are bogus.

MY school's nto on the list. Not surprising. I'm somewhat suprised that so many peopel here have their schools in the top 100...

My school's average old SAT is 1350, so I guess we're are just tooooo good for this list...

Seriously, though, Bronx Science is OBVIOUSLY missing :P

678 whooooooooooo!!!!!

Kman: "I confused you with Olive_Tree.
Where are the wealthy cities in the San Antonio Area?"

Well, the most prominent one is Alamo Heights.

Then again, California is ranked 46th out of 50 states when it comes to education.

There's a list of public elites that Newsweek purposely did not include in this year's issue.

I still think that these rankings are a bit messed up in terms of how they rank these schools in general.

Haha, "I can't find my high school" funny lol. I'm in Beijing, therefore this doesn't comply, but it's interesting to see my old HS.

I think the ranking is a more generalized way to rank it. But it's pretty good. I was looking for TJ too on it.

More like pretty extremely bad.

I'm pleased. My hometown made the list at number 18.

blaw!
i attend the same school- wash i believe

and im also going to ucla

who are you? i probably know you...

Where is Hunter on the list?!

Rankings are ridiculous, but if they make you feel any better, go for it. There are plenty of excellent schools out there that didn't "make the cut".

Hunter, Stuy, TJ, whatever floats in that same boat...

it's all here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12551652/site/newsweek/

Oooh, the public elites...very nice. So these schools weren't included in the other list?

my sister's high school is number 176. i'm impressed.

Because they score too high on the SATs...which IMO makes an already ridiculous list even dumber. :p

TJ's description was weak. Considering Newsweek's focus on APs, they should've mentioned that, for schools with more than 1000 students, TJ is the top performing school in the world on six AP exams (Calc BC, Chemistry, French Lang, French Lit, US Gov, and U.S. History). :D

Wow...What' with all the Lowell students? I agree with Golden Bear...considering other schools in the top 100...many schools are in fact small (in population)...so the whole distribution is funky...

okay...a little school pride here...yay Lowell! haha

who honestly cares about high school rankings? lol
