so... newton is mostly freshmen, you say? because i definitely want to be around more freshmen than upperclassmen.

And i'm really confused which is which. Which section is the honors dorm by? because I know where that is.

Newton is all freshmen.
The honors housing is on Upper.

oh. well then where the heck is newton?

hahahhaa!
would you like me to mapquest it for you (885 Centre ST, Newton Centre, MA 02459)?
Its like a mile and a half away from main campus.

haha that probably wouldn't help, i'm directionally challenged. that's really far away though. arg, can't decide.

there are pros and cons to both campuses.
you'll probably be happy where ever you end up.

i'm going with upper

Lets get some final decisions on which campus you are going to choose and the biggest reason why.

Hopefully this will help out some people who are still undecided much like myself.

I've decided on Newton. I really want that all-freshman community. I'm a little scared about making freinds as it is, so i think this will make it a little easier on me.

Plus, let's be realistic. What are the chances you'll get Upper if you ask for it? Not that great. I'm just cutting to the chase ;)

are there any rooms available for freshmen that are like apartment style, where there's a separate bathroom and kitchen, common area, etc???

Final Decision - Upper

I've decided to go with Upper mainly because of its nearness to everything. Personally, I want to stay close to main campus so that I do not accidentally miss any events that may be occuring and even if I do forget about something, I can easily run out and be a little late. Secondary reasons for choosing Upper include: not wanting to take the bus every goddamn time I want to go to things happening on Main Campus (which is a lot of things), waiting for the bus in the winter time, and waiting for additional buses (esp. in the winter) because one may have filled up. I understand that Newton houses a good deal of the kids but Upper houses a good deal too (actually more than Newton) and I know that because of this fact I won't have too much trouble meeting people.

Anyways, I don't think people should put too much thought into it considering that people say we may not even get to choose and that it's luck of the draw. And besides, we'll all be happy WHEREVEr we may end up. =)

Goodluck!

i requested Newton. why? i put "Upper" and "Newton" in a hat and picked newton.

i chose upper for almost all the same reasons as jench820

and why not meet some upperclassmen while you have the chance to

Hi i was just wondering if anyone knows if you are allowed overnight visitors in the dorms if friends or partners come long distance to vist you? I have heard mixed reports from other colleges some saying yes its really easy to have people crash in your rooms while others have said its impossible.

here's what BC tries to tell you:
GUESTS

Guests are defined as any person not registered to the room. Students are responsible for the conduct of their guests including any damage caused to University property and violations of University policy and/or the Conditions for Residency. Guests of the opposite sex are not permitted to remain overnight. Guests whose stay extends beyond four consecutive nights must have written authorization from the Director of Residential Life. If another student's room or bed is to be used, the host must acquire that individual's written permission. Sexual activity between or among members of the same or opposite sex is prohibited in the residence halls and is subject to disciplinary action.

Students are prohibited from using a bathroom that is not designated for their gender. Students are responsible for ensuring that their guests follow the same policy. Students and guests found in violation of this policy will be held judicially responsible.

hahahaa..ok here's the real deal.
you can have ANYONE you want come and crash in your room. Reslife has no way of knowing who's in your room unless you get busted for a noise violation, alcohol, etc. Just don't be loud, and make sure its ok with your roomie first. You won't get in trouble, and I've never heard of anyone getting a letter from the Dean of Reslife for guests to stay more than four nights.

there is also a new rule about "co-habitation" that states that people of the opposite sex occupying the same room must have at least three feet on the ground at all times.
don't worry it's not enforced. its just funny.

haha no really?

Ok good to know. My boyfriend may vist me and since he is comming from overseas i would like to be able to stay in the same room, or at least nearby. Hotels around boston are so expensive that it may make the difference between him being able to vist me or not. Given our exchange rate to the US $ keeps crashing just makes it all the more expensive. I am hoping to get a single. As long as we did not annoy anyone with noise or anything would it be likely that anyone would dob? heh ... i have no idea if people are that petty or if they really dont care unless you get in their way.

I have heard some colleges allow you to have visitors if they pay a small fee or something like that ... i would prefer that to sneaking around. Its quite common to have overnight guests though at college isnt it?

hmm are there single sex dorms? that could be a issue! :S

We will just have to make sure we dont hold hands and stand 3 feet apart in public at all times lol. Actually thats the same rule as i had at school when i was 14. I didnt think they would try to enforce it on adults though. I guess its there just in case there is a sexual assult or something along those lines. Thanks for the info!

the standard dorms (ie not suites/apartments) are single sex by floor.
and its quite common to have people stay over, so don't worry about fees or being caught. its also pretty hard to get a single unless you have some pressing allergy or medical condition, so chances are you'll be put in a double and you'll just have to "sexile" your roomie when your boyfriend comes to visit.
and you can hold hands and stand closer than three feet...thats not in the rule books...

and yes, really, about the bathroom policy. although they don't hold you judicially responsible, if an RA catches you/another person in the act then there will be verbal reprimanding.

i think i'm choosing upper, but i'm wondering what is more likely to happen if there's too many people... i think a majority of people on here are choosing upper... right?

forced triple at upper

pushed out to newton

yeah im choosing upper..pretty much because its close to everything....i guess newton wouldn't be THAT bad.....
