Next choice to make - curtains/window coverings

I’ve just had my entire house painted, and now I need curtains. I was about to order the very inexpensive sheers we currently have, but then I thought “I really have no idea what current trends are.” We have a cat (who no longer climbs curtains), but nothing expensive is in our future.
I am in search of curtains for the family room and living room. They are both painted BM edgecomb gray (a very light greige) and each have two windows. We want the rooms to get lots of natural light, but want a little coverage.
We had them take down the shutters, and need something for in there too. That room runs the entire width of our house, and is now painted white dove.
I might as well add our bedroom, which is painted gray timber wolf, a gray with a little blue in it. I need something you can’t see through, but that needs some light to get through (don’t want blackout curtains).
Ideas anyone?
Sites that show what’s “in” (that are reasonable)?
Thanks in advance

LOL - at first I thought you were a seamstress, wanting to “make” (sew) curtains … but you just want to make a decision  Curious to see ideas posted here.

I really wanted top-down shades in our new house, but it was more than we wanted to spend. So we’re getting faux-wood (white) cordless blinds for most of the windows.

I’m putting a decorative film on the huge window by the tub in the master bath. That will give it alot of light, but won’t be able to see into the room. Something like this… https://www.hayneedle.com/product/dcfixmedallionpremiumwindowfilm.cfm

Any window not getting a blind will get either semi sheers or room darkening for color. The builders have painted the whole house a pale griege that’s too light and a bit more beige than grey for my taste. That’ll have to change, but slowly. I’m going with lots of blues, blue/greys, and some greens. There’s a nice blue I see alot right now… it’s not quite navy, but not quite royal. It’s lovely with the right grey!

Ive been noticing solar roller shades all over. they come in different colors; the black ones in my kid’s modern/industrial apartment are cool!

I ordered some for my kitchen. They are basically see-through during the day, but you can’t see through them from the outside. The larger the number (eg: 14% openess) the more transparency. not sure I’d put them in my bedroom though!

If it helps, I’ve been watching a TON of HGTV lately while doing my at home physical therapy. I notice that drapes are used very frequently in the staging, usually long, and the rods are placed high. Now, of course, this is for staging/decorative effect, and they are always shown open of course, which gives you a great look but no privacy. You could add cellular shades or sheers to this. Look at Houzz (a website) , Ideas-Living Rooms there is a good example of drapes plus cellular shades, in a gray room

We recently had our bathrooms redone, plus updated the master bedroom. We opted for Veneta cellular shades from Home Depot. They can open from the top or bottom.

We had originally planned to possibly add curtains or a valance, but I’m loving the clean look of just the shade.

Thanks @MaryBarbara58. Did you compare prices with other brands, or just go with that brand? I may do something similar.

I just asked my husband, and he reminded me that we went to Lowe’s, but couldn’t get anyone to wait on us! I’ll have to look for the receipt but I think each shade was about $225/window.

Several years ago I bought inexpensive top-down-bottom-up shades to see if I liked the concept well enough to buy good ones. I’m still using them, and they still look good and work well.

My front windows are about 20’ from the sidewalk. I love that I can obscure the view from the street while still being able to see the trees and sky.
