"Next Generation" of College Confidential Here Already? (FALL 2010 Transfers)

Does anyone know if the essay questions are the same every year?
Doesn’t hurt to start early.=)

^ Should be the same.

1) What is your intended major? Discuss how your interest in the subject developed and describe any experience you have had in the field — such as volunteer work, internships and employment, participation in student organizations and activities — and what you have gained from your involvement.

2) Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are? (Same as when we were in HS)

It’d be good for us to just make those little bubble spiderweb maps/outlines over the summer like they had us do in elementary school for topics we’d consider writing about .

I feel like it’s the right amount of effort for the time period without being an overachiever.
I hate those people who finish essays ridiculously early. Procrastination FTW.

Ha. Erikuh- I’m one of those people. I will probably have my essays done a good 3 months before applications are even ready to be filed!

overachiever!
haha as long as you don’t over-edit them like I did senior year.

Im applying to all the uc’s for fall of 10’ Hopefully the application process will go smoothly…i plan on writing my personal statements in the summer. I cant wait for the year to go by to see where i get in and watch my dreams unfold

hahaha you guys are way too excited. I can’t image how you guys are going to manage to stay in this wait-for-decision mood for over a year. :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyways, wish you guys best lucks.

So are you guys all high school Class of 08 people? It’s been a long first year. Luckily for me, this is my last semester at a CC. :]

I actually graduated in 2007, but I volunteered with AmeriCorps for a year, So I am on track with the HS Grads of 08. Arg! I wish I was transferring this coming year. >:(

Someone definitely needs to start the Fall 2010 CC Facebook group! As for me, I’m kind of new here on the board but I’m excited to go through the process–it seems so exciting yet nerveracking at the same time. Congrats to all who got in btw. Looking to transfer into UCLA for Comm Studies, it’s gonna be tough! Anyone here from SMC?

Meeee for anthro BA which is…not as tough as Comm lol. Although judging by freshman admissions, the acceptance rate will probably decrease by a fair amount like History last year for my major. Good luck Martin!

martinsmc I am! But I am transferring out of smc this semester. Has been my worst semester to say the least, heavily distracted, but I did very well through my 2 years. whats your major?

Well for UCLA I want to major in Comm Studies, but I know that’ll be tough. I have a good 3 semesters here so far, hopefully looking to maintain a 4.0. I’m sorry to hear that you’re transferring out of SMC, where are you headed next?

martinsmc hopefully to UCLA, let’s see how everything goes. I’ll find out this week for sure or latest next week. I am a Global Studies major. what classes are you taking this semester? How have you found smc so far?

do you guys think the admission rate will be lower for us because of all the budget cuts?!? I’m debating whether or not to take classes over the summer so I will have enough units to sign the TAG agreement…it would make me sleep a lot better at night knowing that I’m in somewhere!

sophie24 I ve heard that my class 2009, will be the roughest. 2010, according to obama will be pretty good. Good luck class of 2010, let’s hope it’s true and budget cuts will not be a factor like for us this year.

im going for 2010 and cant wait to apply, but dont want to wait for the whole admissions process. lol . . but whatever . .

chesserforlife,

I love SMC so far. Compared to what I hear from my home college–LAVC–SMC is much more academically driven. Currently I am taking Math 2, Poli Sci 1 (Great class, if you haven’t taken it yet, take Schultz), Couns 20, and Comm 1. I should have a little more than 30 units done by the end of the summer, so I’ll be set to transfer.

-Just a side note: I know a lot of community colleges have TAP with Pomona College, does anyone know if that TAP will give you a good shot at admission? I hear it’s really tough to get into Pomona and I’m wondering if that TAP will give us CCC students a legitimate shot.

I MADE A GROUP. JOIN IT!

I’m definitely getting a B in this class. oh well pwahaha.
