"Next Generation" of College Confidential Here Already? (FALL 2010 Transfers)

How many W’s do you guys have (if any)?
I am going to get my first one. I’d like to keep a 4.0 GPA w/ only 1 W. Or would it be better to keep the class, get a C, and lower down to a 3.79ish. hmm…

lol, that would be nice but stat finder only lets you pick two variables to search by.

rpicton,

I’ll be applying with 1 W (hopefully), with a 4.0 (hopefully as well). So far, I’m looking at the following schools:

Brown
NYU
UCLA
USC
UCB
Texas
UCI
UCSB
UCSD

W’s are better then C’s take the W.

I have 3 W’s, but W’s don’t mean anything.

^ W’s do mean something (bad) if you have too many. Up to 5 are okay, I hear, but anything more than that should be accounted for.

I don’t know about applying to privates anymore… I don’t think financial aid will be enough for me to go to any out of state school. But I’m scared I won’t get into UCB, UCLA, or UCSD. I’m paranoid. :T

o_o

ur doin it wrong

it allows three.

@edelynly
What if you have 8 W’s and a medical reason?

Ah, thanks Top Top. my problem was i was searching it for multiple years, if you do that it only lets you look at 2 criteria

Anyone else applying to any liberal arts colleges? I am starting to warm to the idea of a smaller college.

^ It’ll cost more but it’s an entirely different experience.

If you’re looking for a more intimate teacher to student ratio and smaller campus/student body then LAC would be good for you.

I graduated with 120 people in my hella small high school.
Plus I’m tired of teachers at CC totally noticing when I ditch class haha!

YOU SEE EL AYYEEE!

But I can totally see you in an LAC or CAL, Evan.
(teehee, see what I did there?)

It’s so so so so hard. The admissions rep at Whittier College said I could apply now for the FALL (as in a couple months) and I am almost guaranteed admission, too.
:/

If I do that, there goes my shot at Berkeley, UCLA, or UCSD.
The economy has taken it’s toll on UC’s! :frowning:
and Erika, I liked what you did with Cal and Lac. Very crafty :)

Let’s talk money… How much are they going to offer you? It all comes down to the dollar bills. We all would like to know… :)

Lost potential. Listen it’s not the best thing to have a crap load of w’s. If you have some and can explain it… In the essay…it should be ok. But really just work hard to keep the GPA high And Do all that you can to be the best applicant you can.

These are replies to posts from a while ago :)

* My friend goes to UCSB and I would NEVER EVER VEVEWYVEYRVU E pick UCSB over Cal. I’d honestly rather pick UCI over UCSB. In fact, I’d rather pick UCD (cows lol) over UCSB. Reason? Go there and stay for like 2 or 3 days. Cal has a much more “academia” feel to it, and Berkeley >>>>>>> Santa Barabarbarba streisand. *

This is a fairly ignorant comment. Not surprised it’s second hand information “from a friend” that’s typical of the misinformation that’s out there on UCSB. If you’re specifically referring to noise, there’s plenty of places to live without having to deal with it. UCSB provides the most “complete” college experience combining very strong academics along with stellar social opportunities, which is especially great for transfer students who may have trouble making friends joining a school mid-way. People who aren’t blinded by rankings can also see the value at UCSB. By the way, we had a couple of freshman on the UCSB board pick UCSB despite actually being admitted to Cal so it’s not something unusual either.

Anyone here trying to apply to UCSB’s College of Creative Studies? I might want to apply there for literature, it looks so interesting!

Be sure you check out this post, there’s a lot of information from current students about CCS, which is a very unique program offered at UCSB:

By the way, I was a Fall 2005 (long time ago, haha) transfer to UCSB and I loved the school  I can answer questions about the process if anyone needs help!

I wanna go to the school Sam (Shia LaBeouf) went to in Transformers 2
Hot people and good academics/prestige.

(I also just noticed his last name means “the beef” in French haha)

^
Lol the school featured was UPenn…no hot chicks on that campus.

@lost - I’m not too sure because that’s only what I’ve heard. But I would say maybe talk about it in one of your essays or briefly do so in that ‘extra comments’ section they give you right before you submit your application.

@rc - Good point. I know plenty of people who have picked not just UCSB, but many other ‘lower schools’ over CAL and UCLA. There must be something that appeals to them, right? ahah.

–SMC people–

Anyone know how difficult it is to add a Schultz class for poli sci?
Did everyone mob it? Or would it not be that bad becuase it’s in HSS?
Or just in general what’re the hot classes that are impossible to get added into? (econ? eng 1?)

I’m trying to get my boyfriend to switch from starting at Pierce to SMC instead for this fall but a lot of the classes filled up.

When I took Schultz in the Spring, she added everybody that crashed the course. I’d say anything that’s introductory is hard to add, though, like you said econ 1 and 2, English 1 and 2, etc. The smaller the class, the harder to add, too. Good luck to your boyfriend, hahha.

Have any of you guys ever took classes at Los Angeles City College? How is their quality of education? I registered for six units for the fall. Although the area isn’t the best, I know little about the campus.
