Next wave....

Just to let you guys know, stats are definitely not everything. For a presidential candidate, my stats were much lower than the average candidate: 2200 SAT, 2260 was the average for my session, 3.67 UW/4.0 W, which I can guess is probably lower than the average. During my interview, the three judges heavily emphasized my essay, which they thought was very well written and meaningful. They also touched upon my community service commitment and outside activities. Absolutely nothing was mentioned about SAT or GPA. Basically, they wanted to see that I would be active at USC, so don't sweat if your stats aren't too hot.

When is this wave over? Some of my friends just got the DHL email today, and I did not. The wave ends next week, right? Is there still a chance for me and some of my other friends to still receive the email from DHL? this week and next week is going to be hell...

hm.. i got the DHL email yesterday, but the USC admissions website just update my status literally 15 mins ago, telling me that i have missing forms... what is this supposed to mean?!

what is the DHL email?

the wave's not over. the wave started monday -- and it takes afew days to get to east coast. i got my letter today.

the DHL email is the notification that a package is on the way to you if you are an international student

I just called the office of admissions and was told that acceptances aren't sent out in waves. She said they mail them out as a decision is made. I'm so nervous and don't know what to do!

If a couple of kids at my school got accepted yesterday, does that mean I won't get in?

I don't think so
don't give up hope yet
its not over until April 1

i got my letter yesterday, and 2 other girls at my school did too. a lot of other ppl applied, but they didnt get anything. so idk if the wave is over, but it seems like all SoCal kids got theirs..if they were gonna get one.

rejections are all the way till april 1:[

Just because a lot of Socal kids got their acceptances on tuesday doesn't mean others still cannot be accepted. This is just one wave... the Socal kids who made it in this time around recieved their acceptances on tuesday, everyone else (even east coasters)recieved theirs on Wednesday, and all that's left are internationals for this wave. However about 4500 people have been offered admission total so far, including this wave. They are admitting around 8400 this year. that leaves about 4000 acceptances left to send out (according to someone who saw this on Annenberg's website). i would bet my life that the admission committe doesn't take all the socal applicants and arbitrarily make decisions on theirs all at once... if you didn't get an acceptance this time, then wait another week or two or three. it doesn't make a difference where you are from, socal applicants simply recieve their acceptances before everyone else (in any given wave) because the mail gets to them faster... there should be at least one more wave, but more likely 2, maybe 3. there is no use in worrying until april 1st, after or on which rejections are mailed out.

and regardless of what the admissions office calls it -- either a wave and/or simply "mailing out decisions as they are made" -- both are essentially the same thing said in two different ways.

wait, they already sent out the second wave?
(people from places other than socal got notification, right?)
when can we anticipate the next wave?

i feel like crying my heart out! all my friends got their acceptances and usc is one of the few universities i applied to that i really want to attend. my status thing says 1/15... does that mean anything? i applied 1/10

does the status have anything to do with acceptances?
mine says 2/19

Zwankie, don't feel bad. Only one of the many of my qualified friends who has applied has heard back. I read another post stating that they have room for 4,000 more spots, so keep your chin up! And if you don't get in, it's not the end of the world.

Dark2, where did you get this number? USC's freshman profile for 2008-2009 had a number of 2,766 students-- how could they go from about 2,800 to 4,000+?

i'll try, dark2! probably a better investment to go to a uc.. but i love usc so much =(

The no scholarship letter they sent out said that they plan to offer admission to around 8,400 people this year. In the letter (which was sent out first week of February) it also said only 15% of that 8400 had been offered admission so far which = about 1,200 people. Annenberg's website was updated and says that 3500 acceptances were sent out in this wave on Monday 3/9. That leaves about 3700 more acceptances to send out.

Krose23, it's because not everyone who is offered admission actually goes to USC. Some of the really awsome applicants are going to be waiting on decisions from Ivies and may end up somewhere else. Others may not be able to afford USC and may not get adequate financial aid and are forced to choose a different school. Others may simply not want to go to USC that bad. I'm sure the admissions office has this worked down to a science and has used some sort of equation to estimate the amount of offers of admission that need to be sent out in order to have a freshman class of around 2800. This year they apparently upped the number of applicants that they accept because of the economy and worries over how many people were going to accept the offer of admission because of money. I heard from someone that usually they offer admission to 7000+ which would make a huge jump (from 7000+ to 8400).

I just had my status updated from 1/13/09 to 3/11/09....does this mean anything? Is this an indication of possible acceptance?
