GREAT ESSAYS AND RECS.
various other volunteer and award things

yea spirited away and davan do you guys go to chicago, if so are all students at chicago this snobby? If i feel i have great essays and recommendations why would you laugh at my opinion. Seriously grow up.

ace1054,
actually, davan has a point. Great essays for Chicago - and great essays for HS english aren't always the same thing. When the time comes, getting some feedback on your essay is not such a bad idea.

My comment is that you have not even seen the prompt(s), yet assume your essays and recs (you haven't finished your junior year?) will be great. Everything is subjective, but assuming that your essay will be great before even seeing the 3 prompts is rather ridiculous. This goes for everybody, even the best writers.

Ok yea i understand what your saying now, i only put great essays because i know i am a good writer even on a college level in my opinion (not trying to brag) and i think i will do a good job on the essays. I just wanted someone to base my chances on my stats only, which i guess i should have said? i dnk thanks anyways. ohio_mom: duh, of course im going to get feedback on my essay, from teachers, family, and friends. So on that matter i really dont get what your trying to say.

^ my advice is grow up a little. Don't say "duh" to someone who's trying to help you. You definitely have a good chance, but if your arrogance comes across in your essays, you really shouldn't be calling them "great." I don't mean to be harsh and I'm sure no one else does either, but this was really not the time to ask. Many of us are still impatiently waiting for our EA decisions.

I only meant that essays are heavily emphasized. I was not trying to be a snob. I apologize that it looked that way. And no, I am not a UChicago student.

You have good numbers and so on. However, your application will rely on those essays! (Which is why I bolded them.) I apologize for the ambiguity.

If you look at the old admit threads from last year, you can see perfect GPA/SAT students getting rejected.

What we all mean is that, a traditionally "good" essay isn't necessarily good for the U of C. They are looking for creative quirk, and really, courage in your writing. Don't be afraid to send in "risky," unconventional essays to the U of C. In the previous years, they've had some absolutely insane prompts. Not so much this year, but they are still unconventional.

The U of C admits a surprising range of test scores (meaning they admit some folks with relatively low scores). Only subjectives can account for this. Just, dont be afraid to be yourself on the U of C app. This goes for all apps.
