Next year course help.

Hi! Next year is my senior year and I know I want to major in cs. This year I had my lowest grade of a B in pre calc and honestly I think it was the teacher but I truly disliked the class. I have the option to take stats or ap calc, and honestly I want to take stats, how important is ap calc in admissions? Also, is it important to take an ap english senior year or can I take electives?

Take Calc over Stat. I am pretty sure CS major requires Calculus, not sure about Stat. If you want college credit so you don’t have to take English 1 in college, then take AP English. I wouldn’t take it otherwise.

Cs major requires calc in highschool or college? I absolutely hate our calc teacher so if it doesnt hurt me I dont want to take ap calc

CS is very math heavy so having prior experience in a Calculus course before starting college would extremely helpful along making you more competitive for colleges. If you do not like your Calculus teacher, does your HS offer Honor’s Calculus with another teacher or consider taking a Calculus course in community college.

TAKE CALC. Also, try to see if they’re are some programming courses in your school.

At my school, CS majors take up through Calc 3. Math is not going away, and many of your classmates will have taken calc in high school.

Considering how incredibly more selective CS admission is compared to random majors, applying with a B in pre-calculus and no calculus is very very risky. Unless you apply to a LAC where there’s no selection by major. But assuming you plan on applying to. Your starting flagships, take calculus.
If you don’t want to take calculus with this teacher, take honors calculus or dual enroll in calculus 1 at a local community college.
