Next year--low gpa/high SAT?

I have gotten a 3.9 or higher every year except for sophmore, when I got a 3.0 :(... will berkeley see this as a fluke thing? I was going to write about how I was verging on anorexic that year... Here are my stats:

Oh, and I’m in state…

You may want to move this to the main board. But here’s the numbers for this year’s incoming class.

• The admitted class remains very strong academically, with an average unweighted GPA (4.0 scale) of 3.89. The average weighted GPA (which includes additional points for Advanced Placement classes) is 4.36. The average SAT I total score was 2068.

Cal uses a holistic approach, so make sure your essay is strong. Good luck!

Yes, I understand the numbers for this year, but I’m trying to get people’s feelings, so answer honestly; do you think that I should even apply?

If you read through the posts of those that got in this year, you’ll have a better feel for what Cal is looking for. Cal seems to put more emphasis on GPA than SAT. However, it appears to me that Cal is also looking for those who have overcome adversity. First generation college is also a plus. College admissions at this level is a crap-shoot so I’m not sure why you wouldn’t apply. Good luck.

I see some people who are scaringly impressive who got denied, and people with worse stats than mine who got accepted… I guess it really does come down to the adcom’s mood, luck, and essay.

Oh, and I’m not sure if this will help me but I had a 4.7 in eleventh grade… So bottom line if I don’t get in I’ll know it’s because I f’ed up sophomore year :’(

Oh, and you also mentioned how the Berkeley adcoms seem to be looking for people who overcame adversity, does contracting a mild case of anorexia count if you can write a captivating essay about how you overcame it with information and how society would benefit by being more informed of it? I KNOW berkeley is looking for activists for social change.
