Next year's Applicants Come Together

Hey I am applying to the programs next year and just wanted to see who my competition is lol :) j/k But seriously all you guys applying next year, have any thoughts on where you are applying and what are you gonna be doing this summer to help you out.

Also, I know most of the programs have sent out interview notices, so to this year's applicants, what would you comment on the application and admission processes of different schools/programs? Is it seemingly random or if you have good scores and stats, you pretty much have at least an interview? Just wondering and thnx for the advice in advance.

hey im a senior this yr. and i have by no means close to "good" stats for these programs and I received interviews from Miami, Drexel/Drexel and U. South Alabama....my stats are 1430 SAT (New version), 800 Math 2C, 740 BioM, 3.5 uw GPA, 5 on AP bio and 4 on AP US...lots of medical volunteering. Overall, id say the best thing to do is to make sure ur teacher recs are good as well as ur essay, i.e. in ur essay make sure that you are able to convey why you want to be a doctor and make urself unique. Other than that, make sure you remain honest because the adcom will b able to c thru the BS....ummm so yea amazing stats are not always needed to get an interview....just remember that even if u get denied everything happens 4 a reason and maybe it just wasnt meant to be.....aight so thats my "schpiel" if you will..any other things, holla at me!

u got a 1430 out of a possible 2400? i think u mean out of 1600 right?

I got an interview only to VCU so far, and I'm still waiting for GW. I only applied to 2 programs because I don't want to live far from home. I advise you to really spend time on your essay and make it stand out and show your creative side. This, as well as your recommendations and ECs, puts you in the limelight more than anything else (i.e. grades and test scores). Just show your passion for medicine through your ECs and essay. You don't have to have the best scores to get in, but being a first-generation minority is certainly a plus ;)

Yeah, in regards to above my score was out of 1600...its 2110 out of 2400 so obviously you dont need ridiculous scores to get in, however it wouldnt hurt but yeah just work on the essays and application as a whole.

thnx people

this definitely makes me feel better about applying bcuz my scores are not ridiculously high

Thanks so much to those who post their stats!! I really appreciate it. I asked in somewhere in this forum before, and somebody told me that their stats were not important. A big "WHAT?" came to my mind. I have to evaluate myself before applying!

So thanks a lot!
I'm applying next year too. But I'm a new immigrant with a really weak english basis. So, I'm afraid the possibility to get into one is almost zero.
My dream school is VCU, because I live in VA and VCU's requirement seems a bit lower.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US!!

ditto what hoganwan said and

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US!

hey guys, i just discovered this today. wow, I can't believe how helpful this thing can be.
anyway, obviously i'm only a junior, and I'm not applying yet. I haven't even taken my first SATs, but seeing all the stats of other people is kind of making me nervous. I got a 2200 on my PSATs, and hopefuly when I take my SATs I'll get higher, considering I'll actually study. From what I see, 1550 (out of 1600) looks like a good aim to get into one of these BA/MD programs, especially because I don't have much else...=\
After freshman and sophomore year, I was top 5% out of 437 students, but my grades dropped...so I'm still trying to get back in there.
it gets worse when you look at my EC's. it seems like everyone's got tons of awards and science/math programs. wow, I think I have none...I hate clubs because everyone joins them and wastes their hours pretending to be a real leader of something when everyone in the club is only sitting in the meetings to stick it on his college app. in other words, i don't have any position in any club...except for board member of a Chinese cultural club for two years....(hah..) i spend time volunteering, tutoring, working at a doctor's office...nothing special
the best thing i have is that my var tennis team won state champs and my doubles partner and i got all counties/conference awards. hopefully i'll be co-captain of my team senior year.

im guessing i should do something to make myself look smart over the summer....but i plan on playing tennis(5+ hours each day, 5 days a week), studying SATs, and maybe make an art portfolio (i love art but can't do much with it considering i aspire to become a doctor). oh yeah, and visiting colleges. (is relaxing ever an option??)

sigh...this looks like a joke to try to get into these ba/md programs. should i go for it?

hey thedali did you apply or get accecpted into BU, Penn State, UMDNJ, or HPME 7 year programs ???

phd89 i did not apply to any of those programs mainly because i would honestly not have a shot at any of them...sorry

ok so I am definitely applying next year to BU, GW, and Brown. These are my absolute faves (top choices) but I think there is a slim chance I'll get in.

The other programs I'm thinking of applying to are Case, RPI, Drexel, Temple, Northwestern

Any thoughts or advice? thnx
