Next years housing

ok, so whats a good and nice place to live around here? i looking for something kind of soical life, but not over the top. i was thinking about cardinal gardens or troy hall east. parkside suites (IRC) is really nice too, i like the idea of a suite. i hate where i live right now, in annenburg house. this place is such a bore and everybody is grumpy. im also thinking about living in my frat house, but that can get really out of control sometimes. any suggestions?

Hey TrojanMan!

Good to know about Annenberg House because I was actually signed up to live there last year, but luckily got reassignment. I'm in Troy Hall East, and I really like it. Of course, they are apartments so they aren't totally social, and you don't get to know everyone, but I think that's the same anywhere. Troy East is known for being one of the more social apartments on campus (but you don't have to worry about it being over the top). The only problem is that it, along with Troy, are the most popular places people try to get into, so hopefully you'll have a good lottery number or you'll have friends who you can live with. I have a friend in I think it is Cardinal Gardens, and she said she's seen her RA once. In Troy East, my RA has come around a lot to notify us of events which I think is good, and to give us candy. :) I think quality wise, it is a nice apartment, especially compared to some campus apts I've seen.

What frat house is it? Not that that probably matters, unless it's like the Christian one, because you'll probably definitely get times when it's out of control. And if you don't want that, then the frat house probably isn't for you. I personally don't know how I'd study in a place like that (and the bathrooms are gross, but maybe that's just because I'm a girl :)).

If you have any other questions about Troy East, feel free to ask!

Hey guys, what do you know about transfer housing for incoming juniors? Is it possible to live on campus? If not, what are the alternatives?

domino: you will probably end up with an offcampus apartment. not a bad alternative at all. i think it is possible to liveon campus, like in webb tower or parkside, that would be unlikely.

uschicka: thnaks, what do you know about cardinal gardens?

haha uschicka...I'm in the Christian frat.

there's a christian frat?

yup...and its part of the IFC

Haha, that's awesome USCDude.

MrTrojanMan: I don't know much about Cardinal Gardens. I had thought for awhile that that was one of the freshmen apartments, but I guess it isn't. I think the people I know like it there, it just isn't one of the most social places in the world, I don't think. I do know that a lot of the football players live there. :)

Domino: There aren't many on-campus housing options for non-freshmen. Webb Tower is one, but it's closed for renovations. You can definitely try for one of the USC-owned apartments off campus, which is a popular choice for students. There are a few, like Troy and Troy East, that are just off-campus, and a very easy walk to pretty much anywhere: campus, the Row, the grocery store, etc.

does anybody know anything about cardinal gardens?

ive also been thinking about living in a nice trashcan i saw off 32nd street, and collecting beer cans off the row for tuition money.

anybody?

what are the room layouts for Troy or Troy east? (ie. people per room, bathrooms, etc.)

MrTrojanMan, you can just get a cart from the 32 and rummage through the trash cans all around this area of Troy East and the Row. If you read the article in the DT, supposedly you can make pretty good money of it. :)

domino- Troy and Troy East have a few different options. I have a 4 person, 2 bedroom apartment. There is one bathroom, but it is really nice, because there are two sinks, and a separate room with the toilet, and a separate room with the shower. There are also one room units that can house either 2 or 3 people. There are also 5 person, 2 bedroom units that have two bathrooms.

i just checked out medici. any of you guys heard of it? its pimp. i think im going to give them my deposit tomorriw.

MrTrojanMan-
If you can afford the Medici, that place is awesome. It's really high priced though. Basically everywhere around USC is crappy, its all overpriced and terrible because students don't take good care of their apartments. Your best bet is living downtown if you want a nice apartment. Other options are promenade towers, the orsini, skyline terrace, the metropolitan, and city lights on fig. Of course, speaking from experience, its REALLY hard to keep up with a social life or even motivate yourself to go to class once you live downtown.

USCDude-I've heard of AGO. Very nice guys ;-)

To whoever asked about transfer housing-I have heard that lots of transfers have been getting housing thanks to the renting out of the old beta house, the former asian frat behind adpi, and those apartments on mardette. So, your chances aren't great, but they aren't as bad as some people make it out to be.

Whatever anyone does- DON'T LIVE IN THE ROW APARTMENTS ON HOOVER! They are total *****!

Yeah, I've heard while apts downtown are nice, it's harder to get involved on campus and feel a part of everything. Plus their expensive, of course.

I'm living at Medici this summer :)

The place is unbelievably nice, I have a couple of friends that live there right now. I'm not sure how social it is, but I do know that there are a lot of SC students living there. Funny thing is, it's cheaper than apartments closer to SC.

Just me lead me here after a long day of classes and I'll be happy :):

shhhhhhhh dont let people know that medici is cheaper. it takes some of the novelty of living somehwere so nice, and people here might actually look into it. id be bummed if they ran out of apts.

but ya, all my friends from UC Irvine are jealous even though they live in the best housing available in irvine and newport. suckers, too bad they will be paying 3x as much in a boring city.
