yeah, uva is definately making a lot of progress, esp with giving full rides to people with an EFC of 0. UCLA should do that.

i think ucla shoudl just give out less regents scholarship but full rides and make them based on gpa and sat alone.

No. What UCLA should do is do another fundraiser, increase endowment, and give full rides to anyone with an efc of 0 lol.. A lot of privates, and some publics, are doing this; it helps increase enrollment (especially from qualified applicants), as financial resources will no longer be a concern.

What I meant was that I don't think one school or another is better than the other, but I can see how someone could justify the way they're spaced. Berkeley is, after all, the original flagship of the UC and oldest one too (big factor in prestige), and one would logically assume that more of UC's resources are directed there, something that may have impacted the rankings. At any rate, I don't think LA should really care about the rankings all that much to warrant going out and fundraising. That would just show how much the US News has taken over college decisions. The people that spend their time determining the worth of a school based solely on rank should have "fun" at their schools, while the people that realize that there is life beyond the rank and choose a school that they would fit into should enjoy theirs.

Nothing wrong with wanting your school to be higher ranked. Why are "fun" and being concerned about ranking mutually exclusive? A higher ranking is "pointless" as many people would say, but this "pointless" quantifiable factor has an impact on the futures of the students.

It is like the SATs. Sure, SATs are "pointless," and students should care about enjoying themselves and "chasing their passions" aka resume whoring, but seriously, 2400 is only a number but it talks a lot more than what a 1900 and an eloquent essay do.

Besides, there is nothing wrong with having pride in your school and wanting it to be more respected. I know the UCLA name carries weight, but does it carry the same weight as Harvard or even Berkeley? Unless you are an athlete, actor, or artist, no.

Peppers, please check the link above. Tell me where they say endowments count 25% of the score.

BTW, this is a funny thread.
