Next year's shows! Just for fun

Those of you who have made their decision - have any of your schools posted next year's season yet? D's just did - one of their shows is The Spitfire Grill, which I know as a movie but didn't know they made a musical of it. I saw on YouTube that Viterbo did it recently so it must be a pretty good show. (from what I saw of it :) looked great) It's kind of exciting to have some knowns replacing all the question marks. :)

D played Percy in Spitfire Grill when she was 15. There are several great roles for women in the show, which is a bit atypical and nice!

My daughter just called this weekend to tell me that Michigan announced their season. They are doing The Full Monty, Little Women, Spring Awakening and Chicago. The Musket productions will be Caberet and Tommy.
It was also announced that Danny Gurwin would be coming to direct Little Women! The students are all very excited!

Coastal Carolina hasn’t officially announced but here’s a sneak peek - Iphigenia and Other Daughters, Servant of Two Masters, Lost in Yonkers, Anything Goes, Boeing, Boeing, Urinetown, and an American classic TBA to finish up the year. I believe they are bringing in a guest director for one of the musicals but I am not sure which one. Plus there will be the Second Stage shows as well. Looks like a fun season to me!

Carnegie Mellon’s mainstage season is the Good Person of Szechaun, Mad Forest, Sweeney Todd, and Bus Stop.

Hair, Cabaret, Lysistrata, Pillowman are among the offerings

My daughter got to work with Danny Gurwin at UCLA last summer and loved him! Lucky Michigan students!
Hartt will be doing Pippin, Sunday in the Park with George, new musical - Time after Time, Nine and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Not for the freshmen unfortunately!

James Madison University Masterpiece Theatre Season is (fall) Our Country’s Good, The Cradle Will Rock, Dead Man’s Cell Phone, (spring) Sweeney Todd, and Servant of Two Masters

The fall student directed season is Macbeth, Lucky Stiff, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, and Director’s Fest (a festival of student directed 10-minute plays)

The spring student directed season will not be set until mid-October. The students go through a proposal process the semester before for student directing slots.

nbmom, that lineup of musicals at Hartt, in my opinion, is a great one as it is quite varied!

From the director of Ball State’s Musical Theatre Program:

2011-2012 shows include MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, LEND ME A TENOR, DROWSY CHAPERONE (directed by Sutton Foster!!!), EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL, REASONS TO BE PRETTY, and a new musical written by our students as part of the Virginia Ball Center for Creative Inquiry at Ball State entitled THE CIRCUS IN WINTER. This show will open the season and will be a full entry in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival.

I know D and all the kids at MPulse loved working with Danny Gurwin last summer. The UMich season sounds like fun!

I don’t know when Northwestern announces their upcoming season, but I guess I should hope they don’t do any of D’s dream shows since I don’t think freshwomen can audition for mainstage shows. ;-D

mommafrog - My D was in Evil Dead!: The Musical. HILARIOUS show!!

I think all the seasons sound fabulous!! Many of my favorites…wish I could see them all!

KatMT: I love “Our Country’s Good”! My daughter played Mary in the show this past year at Michigan, it is a wonderful piece!!

MomCares - yes, Freshman can audition for anything.

@amtc – thanks! I thought D had said they couldn’t, but I must be remembering a different school. We’re looking forward to hearing what they’ll be doing next season!

It will be fun to hear what other schools are planning!

It is very interesting to see the overlaps in seasons between schools… even within this small cross section of postings… Spring Awakening, Streetcar, Sweeney Todd, Servant of Two Masters, and The Cradle Will Rock are being done by more than one of the schools posted.

mommamt – I too love Our Country’s Good… it is a show I would love to direct someday… my assignments at JMU next year are The Cradle Will Rock and Sweeney Todd… I am excited to direct those. I have directed Sweeney before, but first time with Cradle.

Hope to see what others schools are doing this coming year. fun info! :)

I agree that it’s fun to see which shows overlap. Cabaret is also being done by multiple schools next year (makes sense because it feels so relevant today).
