a national scholarship for the arts for h.s. seniors as well as college freshman who are still 18.

Thanks so much. I'm kind of stumbling around in unfamiliar territory here for a kid with a hobby that's growing into something more. I really appreciate all the info you guys post on this site.

Classical Voice
ARTS Week in Miami, FL

Congratulations to both nutmeg and ablestmom's daughter! That's top 10 percent, that is HUGE out of 7,300 applicants! remind your daughter of that and remind yourself of that nutmeg.

CONGRATS Patrick27tenor!!!!!!!! That's fabulous!!!! Have a wonderful time and please tell us all about it when you get back.

I remind her of that all the time, lol. Her voice teacher just yelled at her for thinking less of herself! She is already planning her repertoire for next year, lol!

Patrick - Congrats! That is a huge honor. I am sure you will have a great time and we will all look forward to hearing about it.

Thanks so much you guys, and to ABlestMom, that is so right of her voice teacher! Merit is HUGE! I have a friend who is at Oberlin and is a Phenomenal soprano, and she received a 7 out of 10! I was shocked to see that score, I thought she would have scored much higher. Her recordings were wonderful. Voice is an extremely subjective thing. That's so funny you say that, I'm working very hard on repertoire for auditions for schools as well! I think that it will be an awesome learning experience and opportunity down there in Miami! I will post alot more on this thread come mid january!
Wishing everyone the best,
Patrick

Congratulations Patrick! I just told your Interlochen buddy whom you visited a few weeks ago at NU about your news today. That friend happens to be my son! He said he was going to call you soon if he hasn't already. Anyway, best of luck as you continue your audition process! Everything will work out as it is supposed to.

What do the kids do in Florida?

Congratulations to Patrick, nutmeg, and ABlestMom's daughter! Any award in the ARTS competition is something to be very, very proud of.

NFAA ARTS Week
Up to 160 NFAA ARTS Finalists receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Miami, Florida in January for a week of final adjudications. NFAA ARTS Week consists of performances, master classes, live auditions, exhibitions, and workshops. The final judging results in national recognition as well as cash awards ranging from $250 - $10,000.

Thanks bsnbilly and congrats to all who entered!

symphonymom - from what I read on the above website, the adjudicators in Florida also nominate the kids who get a chance to win a Presidential Medal in the Arts, and if they get that, then they also go to Washington, DC for a week in June and give performances at the Kennedy Center, attend workshops, etc. during an awards week that includes the kids who get the Presidential Medal in academics.

The NFAA finalists for 2007 are due to be posted on the NFAA website sometime today. My daughter was phoned a couple of weeks ago and received her ARTS WEEK package the day before thanksgiving. It'll be neat to see all the names of the kids honored throughout the country.

Congrats to your daughter! Tell her to have a fabulous time in Miami!

Nice job Patrick and cornfed's D. Your story makes me feel a little better, Patrick =D

NFAA is having "technical difficulties" at the moment. When do you think we can see all the finalists?
