I saw a thread for this last year so I thought I would start one for this year. My son just finished his package and sent it off by Fedex. Now the wait begins to hear if he makes it to Miami.

Thanks for starting this thread, BaritoneDad.

According to the youngarts.org website. “The final registration deadline is October 15, 2010, 9:00 pm EST . The deadline for submitting your materials to be received is Saturday, October 30, 2010, 5:00 pm EST.”

Wishing your S the best BaritoneDad. DD entered her senior year. Even though she did not win anything it was still worth the effort to submit. She was much better prepared for her auditions and several places commented on her participation when she had her auditions.

Good luck Baritone Dad. My D was lucky enough to go to Miami last year. If you have any questions, we will be glad to answer.

Hi

I am happy to see that someone has started this thread (I was thinking of starting one myself :). I was wondering if anyone is entering for Photo/Visual Arts? I am getting super nervous/excited/nervous/confused for submission…!

Advice?
Thoughts?
Opinions?

You might try the visual arts major forum: [Visual Arts and Film Majors - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/visual-arts-film-majors/)

good luck!

Thanks for this thread and the links to the prior years’ threads. My son has applied for this and I really didn’t know much about it, so I found these threads helpful. Does anyone know when our students can expect to hear back? In past years it looks like the latter part of November, but I couldn’t find anything on the nfaa website. Based on the numbers posted in last year’s thread (6-8K applicants, 140 finalists), the odds seem pretty daunting. It would be a nice surprise for S to get a trip to Miami in January, and it sounds like a great experience, but we’re keeping expectations low.

Good luck to everyone entering! YoungARTS was without a doubt the highlight of my senior year. It’s a wonderful program.

Nothing like waiting until the last minute but I am hoping to get my packet in the mail tomorrow. Just wondering if I need to put the bar code directly on the dvd or if I can tape it on the cover? Can’t tell from the mailing materials picture. Also am wondering if there is form that I need to include in the envelope other than the PIF form. Looks like in the submission picture they have the bar code form and another form that is folded, but I don’t see any other forms mentioned in the written instructions. Thanks and good luck to all!

I believe the “folded” sheet of paper is actually a content card that states all of the pieces you’re performing. I remember having the same concern. And I had a friend print my bar code directly onto the DVD because he had the machine to do it, but I would be nervous about taping anything directly onto the DVD… I think it would be sufficient to tape it to the cover and perhaps write your YoungArts ID# onto the DVD with a permanent marker. It might be worth it to call and ask, just to be sure.

Thanks. I just called and they confirmed what you said about writing the number on the dvd with a sharpie and putting the bar code on the cover. Its done! Great back to college apps. yugh!

Hi, I have a question. How many musical theater kids get to go to Miami and when will they notify them if they are chosen?

sweet pea, there isn’t a set number for any of the categories. If they have 5 kids that meet the standards for Miami that is how many will go. If they have 2 kids chosen, that is how many will go.

Usually there are about 20 total for the theater discipline (combined spoken and musical theater). Finalists are notified by phone sometime during the third week of November.

mflevity, are you sure about the notification date? My S said he got an email that they’d be notified by mid-December.

Based upon information that I have read from prior years, the people selected to go to Miami receive a call later in November and that everyone else hears by email by the mid-December timeframe indicated in the email that they sent out.

Yep, I’m positive and BaritoneDad is right. Finalists get notified early (presumably for logistical reasons) by phone, and the honorable mention/merit winners (along with everyone else) get notified by mail in mid-December.

Last year it was November 21 for finalists. Phone call and email.

Eight(ish) more days then? :O
