NHS Activities

I am currently in the process of being an officer in my school's NHS. I really want to make us really known next year in school and the community in terms of activities. So, can those in NHS give me examples of activities your local chapters sponsor?

Thank you

My school's chapter doesn't do much compared to others. We are required to do 16 hours of any community service every year in addition to working the open house at school; that is all. I know that some chapters will go out to lunch together just to talk and get to know each other well.

at our school you have to have 20hrs each smester and no double dipping. We've done the special olympics for 15 yrs, can drives, food drives, and blood drives.

beach clean up... book sale.. help with public library.. habitat for humanity.. and lot of local events like festivals..

one of the things NHS does in my school is they have a meeting every month and everyone makes sandwiches and donates them to a local soup kitchen.

find a local after school program and supply them with NHS tutors.

wow. My nhs doesn't even require hours.

Then again, we don't do anything at all.

My school's NHS just does tutoring. We have hours after school in school and also at the middle school that feeds here, and everyone needs to complete a certain number of tutoring hours.

My NHS likes to sponsor a testing pep rally, which is a pep rally to kick off the major test and get the students ready and pumped up to take the test. We do this to show the students that academics can get just as much praise as sports. We also do peer tutoring and we try to work at soup kitchens for the homeless as well as do walks for different things such as cancers, aids, etc. I hope this helps give you some ideas.

bump..I'm interested in more ideas.

I'm the president of my chapter, and this year we've done a can and coat drive and are hosting a charity volleyball tournament. Anyone who goes to our school can form a team and register to compete, and we charge $5 per person to watch or play. Its not too hard to work out the logistics, we just need to make sure we can have the gym that night and pay for a couple cops. All the proceeds go to a specific charity and a lot of businesses make donations for prizes. Also, teachers can submit tutoring requests and every member is supposed to be tutoring at least one person at a time.
