<pre><code> Currently a sophomore at Queen Creek High School, these two years of high school have had a major impact on my commitment to leadership, character, community service, and scholarship. To me, these two years of high school have not only changed my character but have also been my most enjoyable. As I arrived to high school, I had little knowledge of leadership and community service. Joining various clubs, putting my time into them, and learning how to manage them has not only positively shaped my character, but it has enhanced my leadership and community service. I truly believe NHS will not only allow me to expand my leadership skills, increase my community service hours, provide me with scholarship opportunities and enhance my character; it will also make me a better person.
A club that I have been involved in these two years of high school is HOSA; it stands for Health Occupations Students of America. I am currently the Vice-President of this club. This club is designed for individuals who are looking into a career in health care. Being the Vice-President of HOSA has improved my leadership skills tremendously. Working along with other club officers to develop an effective plan for running HOSA has taught me how to be a leader that is willing to put in their effort in order to positively affect the club. As VP, I am in charge of all fundraising events. I must coordinate any event so that it is most effective and runs without any major problems. I also improved my leadership skills by attending HOSAs chapter officer leadership training. We learned numerous ways of leading the club; it was for sure a great experience.
My engagement in HOSA and my interest in medicine has led me to be a part of many community service projects. Earlier in November, there was a blood drive conducted here at Queen Creek High School. Being Vice-President, I was in charge of this event and helped get the word out. Being a big part of this event absolutely enriched my leadership skill, but most importantly it was a good way for me to give back to the community and help collect blood for those in need. Another community service I committed myself to was volunteering at the Arizona Museum for the Youth. Over the summer, I volunteered about two hours a week making sure the exhibits inside the museum were constantly clean and there was someone available to answer questions the visitors might have. This was another excellent way I gave back to the community. Being a part of these events has taught me a lot and has unquestionably improved my obligation to community service. Knowing I took part in these events because I wanted to and not because I had to really made me feel accomplished.
Taking honors and AP classes has also improved my commitment to scholarship. It has made me into a person who strives to achieve an A if I have a B. Over the years I have realized that doing well in school is not a competition with others but it should be a challenge with my-self. Taking these advanced courses has taught me how to get across struggles. It has contributed to making me a better person overall. For the past years I have been on the Principals List which has been a great accomplishment for me and I will strive to make that happen for the two years ahead of me.
It has become clear to me that the more extracurricular activities I become involved with, I happen to improved myself and become a better-rounded student. Being a part of NHS will definitely further my skills as a leader, and it will undeniably allow me to help out others in need. Being a part of NHS will certainly be an honor and my commitment to leadership, character, community service and scholarship will be definite.
