Hi,
So I’m running for in school events officer in my NHS at school and this is the speech I have written. Due to certain things, I won’t be presenting if myself but someone will be reading it. I was wondering what if this seemed good?
Hello fellow NHS members.
My name is XXXX and no, just to clarify, I am not the person reading this speech off a piece of paper. I would have loved to be here speaking to you in person, but unfortunately NASA’s Alabama space camp is currently occupying my attention right now. But trust me, I was thinking about all of you amazing people…except you know, one hour ago. NHS is a great organization, especially when it is made up of the brightest and best students at XXXXX. But today, I’d like to talk about why you should vote for me as In-school event officer for the 2015-2016 school year.
You’re probably going to hear a lot of speeches about how people are great leaders and have done many other leadership things, so I’ll go ahead and get that out of the way. I think I’m a great leader. I am currently the president of SPICE club, an on-campus club that’s all about preserving Indian culture- and no, I’m not above shameless self-advertising. As a fellow speech and debate member, I’m not afraid to put myself out there in front of a large group of people, but don’t worry, I don’t scream at random walls. I like to listen to any ideas that people have and I am always open to new suggestions and ideas, regardless of whether they are coming from a junior or a senior member.
In fact, I believe that members as a whole should contribute to the experience of being in NHS. If you know of any place or anyone who needs volunteers, I would be more than willing to make that an opportunity for everyone to participate in. In order to facilitate easier conversation between members and officers, I would like to recreate a DVNHS website. While currently there is one, it has not been updated since 2012. On this website there would be places to communicate with members, agendas and log sheets and links to all of the events that members can sign up for. This would also be a way to communicate throughout the club if you are having trouble finding hours or need to miss a meeting for some reason. I understand that not everyone is on Facebook, Twitter and other social media, so this website would be accessible to anyone with Internet. It will also make contacting members more efficient than email. In the case that multiple people have the same questions, because we can answer them in a way that everyone can see the answers.
I also think that this idea will bring a more personal touch to NHS. In a group of so many people, most of whom we don’t see, it can be easy to get lost. I believe we should bring back a sense of club unity in NHS. That is why my goal for next year, regardless of whether I get elected or not, is to learn every single member’s name. While this may seem like a crazy idea, I know all except for 2 or 3 names of kids in Speech and Debate. In Speech and Debate, we have a very close relationship with each other. While I realize that it isn’t entirely practical to do that here, I think that learning each other’s names is a common courtesy that can bring us closer together. That way, we are not individual high schoolers doing work, but a community that wants to help the world.
Now after all of this emotional stuff, I know the more practical thinkers here are thinking, why should I vote for some idealistic girl who isn’t even here to tell us this in person. Well, let me just tell you that there are logical reasons for you to vote for me as in-school officer. The first is that I am accessible. My house is less than 5 minutes away from here. If anything came up that required me to meet up with someone or take care of something here, I can run over here at the drop of a hat. Not to mention that next year, I will be at school from 7:15 am to 5:30 pm almost every day. If anything needs to be done, I’m your go-to person. Second, I’m easy to reach. Unless you contact me from 12 pm to 5 am, I will be there to answer any questions that members email me. Third, I have no qualms about the sort of work that needs to be done. If I am needed to scrape gum off of desks, I can do that. If I am needed to pick up trash after a full day event at school, I can do that. I did that at the regionals event this year. So yeah, I would make a reliable officer for NHS.
I hope that after hearing this speech, which may or may not have been delivered in monotone, you see why I should be your in-school events officer. I think that our club is great and can be even greater if we all work together to make something amazing. I should probably give up the stage to the next speaker now, so I’ll end this here, but I just want to you remember, I care about all of you, even people I don’t know, even if I’m an hour away.
