Ok, I've heard many different things on CC about NHS and its benefits on a college application. What should occur when it comes to NHS? Some have told me that it is not worth putting down and others say that it is important to put down. Also, if you are VP or President, how does that affect the circumstances?

In my case, I am the current VP, and will be running for President next year. How will that look? Just want to clear the air and get a final opinion

tekman, i'm curious - what are your other ECs that would take precedence over veep/pres of nhs? being NHS member is an achievement in itself.... veep and pres of the club especially more so.

It's great that you like NHS, but in all honesty, it isn't quite as prestigious as some make it out to be. Sure, at some schools, NHS is cutthroat to be admitted, but in others it only requires you to pay dues. Therefore, many colleges respect it, but they don't hinge decisions on it. I'd personally put it down. It won't hurt.

Yeah - you should definitely put it down... but honestly, as a bitter person who didn't make the cut for NHS, it is the colleges who are making the decisions not your high school...

It's pretty funny at our school, many of the kids who weren't drafted into NHS this year got into and are going to more prestigious schools than those who did!
