Nhs?

What is the National Honor Society? I've been hearing that quite frequently.

Usually selection is by "invitation" and involves your school teachers -- best thing is to check with your school's guidance counselor and ask who the NHS teacher sponsor is for your school's NHS (like most "clubs" NHS usually has a primary teacher who is involved) and then talk to that teacher about "what do I need to do..." to get in. Good luck!

SteslaS,

NHS is a very good organization/club for you to participate in during high school. Universities love to see this on a resume. Out of the 450+ graduates in my d's graduating class, she was one of 14 NHS members.

Check out the above website for all the details. If you check usma's website, you'll see that 795 of 1311 candidates admitted for the class of 2010 were NHS members.

Definitely check into it. Good Luck.

What if no teacher at my school is familiar with NHS?

Thank you Wpmom2011, that was the reason I am showing interest in it.

SteslaS,

If no one at your school is familar with NHS, your school probably doesn't have a chapter. See if you can find a teacher interested enough to serve as the adviser for your potential NHS chapter and found one! That's what we did at my school this year.

yeah. My school didn't have one. I was the Commissioner of Clubs and Senate, so I chartered NHS at my school, and I became the founder and president. YOu should do the same thing.

peteyflow and spectrez can you explain to me how you contacted NHS and how you set up the club

SteslaS,

Oh I myself didn't found the club. My chemistry teacher knew of the club and believed our student body was worthy of hosting a NHS chapter and thus she founded the club. Check out the NHS website- all you gotta do probably is just fill out an application form, but I'm not really sure. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.

Its another positive thing to join. Its funny though. I actually heard this at a college visit to a school to remain un named. They said, dont waste your time listing NHS as an accomplishment, almost everyone is a member of NHS. I think that kind of view goes along with the argument that some high schools are rumored to possess widely differing academic standards. So take that information for what its worth to you.

Has anyone else had that type of experience?

SteslaS, go to the website. IT shows you how to charter the club, and stuff. It's a long process but it's well worth it. You have to talk to the principal as well, because the school has to pay like 100 dollars a year. www.nhs.us
