Where is the best place to stay in Niagara Falls? Thanks!
We stayed on the Canadian side, I believe it was a Hilton Garden Inn. It had free parking included and was a fairly short walk to the falls and nearby restaurants. At the time we went (a decade ago) the hotel was pretty new and rates were reasonable. There was an atm machine in the lobby and hotel guests got a discount for dining in the hotel restaurant.
We stayed at the American side and paid extra for a view of the falls in our June honeymoon decades ago. Couldn’t see the falls for the fog and mist so wouldn’t recommend the splurge, unless you’re lucky.
We stayed at a B&B in Niagara on the Lake in Canada and drove up to the Falls. It is a pretty small town, interesting in its own right. We walked across the bridge to see the US side.
Embassy Suites Niagara Falls and Marriott Fallsview both have rooms with great views. The Embassy Suites also has the Keg restaurant which has a spectacular view.
If you get a chance to go to the butterfly conservatory, it’s really cool. We also had dinner in the revolving restaurant at the top of a building (hotel?). The view was amazing! We enjoyed the trip a lot more than we expected to.
We went to a winery that had an excellent restaurant, toured winery and tasted wine and had a nice dinner at it. I believe the place was called Trios or similar.
We preferred the Canadian side–Niagra-on-the-Lake. Many choices of hotels and restaurants. We went to see a show at the Shaw Festival (great theater).
Maybe not the best, but it was a good value and convenient. Stayed at a Country Inn and Suites on the Canadian side in 2017 with three teenagers and were able to leave our car and walk everywhere which was nice.
we stayed outside Buffalo, where everything was cheaper and parking was free. The drive over was maybe 20 minutes.
On our honeymoon (in the 1980s), we flew into NYC and then took train to Buffalo, renting a car from there since it was much cheaper than trying to rent from NYC.
If staying on the Canadian side we prefer the Sheraton Fallsview Hotel almost directly across from the American Falls and we always choose a Fallsview room, sometimes both and sometimes partial pending our budget and whims. It’s a short walk to everything from this hotel - food, the park, Rainbow Bridge (for spending a day on the US side - you can walk across), the boat ride, etc. It’s a nice place to stay as a hotel, but for us, location is utmost and it’s ideal. If you want a pricey breakfast - theirs is terrific (we got it as a freebie once). In general though, we tend to walk outside on the streets to pick up food, then bring it back to eat with our Falls View. Poutine is one of our favorites, but not for breakfast.
On the US side there’s no similar Fallsview hotel that I know of. We chose to stay at the Holiday Inn Downtown and liked it a bit. It’s a very short walking distance from the Goat Island Bridge (Goat Island is our favorite part of Niagara Falls on the US side), and the other direction there are places to eat, etc. We’ve only stayed there once though - due to Covid and Canada being shut down.
Our preference is to stay on the Canadian side and walk to the US side for a day - mainly because the Canadian side is so much better designed for falls viewing and more.
Glad to read the suggestions. Years ago we preferred Canadian side more but was not sure if things had changed. What are the passport logistics like at the border?
We stayed (one night) in a Marriott on the Canadian side. Pulled the sofa from the room up to the window for a good view, uncorked a bottle of wine and ordered room service dinner.
Thoroughly enjoyed that.
