Nice apartments for USC students, where?

I'm going to be looking for an apartment soon to share with a roomie and I was wondering if any current students know of any nice buildings somewhat near SC? I'm guessing within 7-8 miles would be good... if I wanted to stretch it further, I'd chill out in westwood w/all the ucla students :)

thanks.

A lot of people live in the Medici and City Lights. They're more upscale, but I don't know if you mean that by "nice." I'm sure there are more normal-priced apartments around, also. If you don't mean upscale just liveable, you can look at Conquest apartments, as well.

Any Conquest apartments that are still available are probably not going to be "nice." Tuscany's nice, but the price is overkill unless you squeeze one more person in an apartment. It's probably because it has an Olympic-size swimming pool, fitness center, health spa, saunas, and other amenities. And it's sold out.

I think nicer apartments are downtown. Medici and City Lights are downtown.

Yeah, I'd agree with Medici and also The Piero as being very nice. But you're really going to need a car, as you'll have to commute to campus.

How do SC students afford to live at Medici etc? (I know a lot of them are loaded but some arent I'm sure)

How much do they usually split rent among room mates?

2 bd/2 bath at Medici would run around 700-750ish/person split among 4 total people... anyone interested in shacking up? :)

My son spent a year in a Conquest "newer" two bedroom. It wasn't very nice. Even with a toal of four students it was still $700.00 a month. This year he roomed in a house near campus with 7 or 8 others and the price dropped to $545. Next year he will be have a room by himself in a house with a number of other students. It will be over $700.00. It's the house used by ABC when they did the "Scholar" program.

Oh, that was a real nice house. I remember it from the Scholar. How far is that from campus? My son is looking at a place on Budlong south of Exposition. Believe it or not, he has never learned to ride a bike so he has to be within walking distance. There seems to be lots of students (and former students) all around the general USC area.

tsdad, which Conquest building did your son live in? And where was the house that he shared with a bunch of other guys? I know houses further away from campus are a lot cheaper. One of my friends lives on 23rd St, with 6 others and has a room to himself, and he pays only $450/month.

Sorry if this is slightly off-topic, but I think the distance from campus plays a huge role in the price of a place.

I don't think south of Exposition, or west of Vermont is good choice. Some students live there, but I never gave it a thought.

Ebay:

I don't know how far it is from campus, but it is on the tram line.

Proto:

The Conquest housing was Palisades II on W. Adams. His current house is W. 23rd St. Could it be the same house you mentioned? Is your friend a film student? Almost all the people in the house are. There is also another house with film students across the street. My son will be in the Scholar house with some of them next year.

The large group housing seems to work well when one very compulsive person takes responsibility for running everything. I guess she gets a cut in the amount of rent she pays.

It most likely is not that house, because I don't think any of the guys that live in my friend's house are film students. I think they are on W 23rd St close to Scarff and Portland. Interesting, because my coworker also lives on 23rd, and she says that hardly any USC students live on 23rd because it's pretty far from campus. But I think going 3 minutes further for cheaper housing is worth it (since Adams isn't that far from 23rd).
