nice campus with good atheltics program?

My dream school right now is USC, but I have a slight chance with a 3.35 UW GPA.

I was wondering...

what schools have a good sports program (to cheer for obviously), respectable academics, and a good campus?

Illinois Urbana Champaign? U of Michigan? Wisconsin MadisoN?

^ Yep, all of those are fantastic. UW-Madison’s setting is the nicest, IMO.
I’d say U Mich = UW = USC > UIUC for sports.

What state are you from?

New Jersey.

Yeah. I know that Illinois’ sports program isnt as good as the others, but it is on the slow uprise. Illinois has two 5 star prospects coming in 2010, and they have a really good class for 2009 for basketball.

What other schools have a nice campus with a good athletic program?

Check out Penn State for an option closer to home.

With a 3.35 gpa and from oos your chances at entering Michigan are not very good to be honest.

Ohio State?

Wisconsin fits the bill perfectly, but as with Michigan and Illinois your GPA makes you a marginal candidate unless you have a good test score.

How about Indiana, South Carolina or Michigan State?

With your given stats, MilwDad gave some great suggestions. South Carolina in particular is very responsive to out of state applicants. You may want to look into some of the other SEC schools (Alabama, Auburn, Tennesee).

It will really help you kind of get an idea of your chances if you look at the statistics for OOS admits for this year’s incoming freshman class. That information can be found either online on the schools’ websites or in many of the college books like Princeton Review, etc. Look at mid-range 50% GPA UW and/or W, 50% SATs and ACTs scores, etc. Do some research in narrowing down which schools you are likely to have a shot at, then go from there. Good luck to you!

Assuming you have decent scores, UFlorida could fit the bill perfectly.

Virginia Tech if you could get in.

I recently visited University of Oregon and University of Washington. Both schools are nice and they have solid athletic programs. I am a top student from California, so I also looked into both honors programs. UO is an incredible school with a gorgeous campus. Here’s a picture of the quad area

“I am a top student from California, so I also looked into both honors programs.”

…and obviously humble.

I was actually trying to articulate my thoughts without sounding snooty. I wanted to demonstrate that not all top students attend private schools. There are great educational opportunities to be had public flagship universities.

To break the string of large state schools, you could consider Boston College.

BC is great, but since the OP’s big reach school is USC, he might have a hard time getting into BC, too..

thanks for all the replies.

Penn State seems like a good choice, but there’s really no point in going there when I can go to Rutgers (which is worse I know) for a lot less money.

I’m planning on raising my SAT score to over 2100, and over a 30 for ACTs.

Right now I have a 2000 for SAT score so I’m working on it.
