Hi, we (H,S1(17) and myself) will be going to FSU for a tour next month (Mar '13) and would like your opinion on where to stay. I called the school and they cannot give any recommendations/suggestions. We're looking to spend around $100. It's only for one night. It would have to be clean, and have 2 Queen beds. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

We have stayed at the Fairfield Inn and Suites on Apalachee several times. It’s not that close to campus, however, it was brand new last year, very clean, and the kids behind the desk were always FSU students and very helpful. It’s located pretty close to the mall, a Target, and lots of restaurants. I think a room with two queen beds runs around $89. If you have AAA there is a discount. Good luck! We’ll be there in April for preview as well as in May for orientation and i have already booked our rooms.

there’s a newly renovated hotel, Four Points by Sheraton that’s within walking distance of the college.

Thanks both of you. I’m not familiar with the area and I could use all the help I could get. Thanks again.

How close are you looking to stay? Like, how much of a drive time are you looking for from your hotel to the campus? What is your budget?

There’s pretty much a hotel in Tallahassee for everyone.

We always stay at the La Quinta on Apalachee Parkway. No frills, but clean and cheap.

A friend of mine told me about this and it worked every time(except maybe parents weekend in October). If you go on priceline and select the area around campus and put in $50 for your price, it comes back with Doubletree hotel which is really close to campus and regualar rates are over $100. It has worked for us.

I pricelined doubletree once and got a great rate

I’ve also stayed at quality inn on apalachee and it’s actually pretty nice and you’ll get a breakfast

Marriot Residence Inn is brand new and has a decent breakfast included in the rate. just 2 blocks away

Just tried the Priceline idea…didn’t work for me. I think that when the legislature is in town, it might be harder?

I booked the Country inn & Suites off I-10. I’ve stayed at other Country Inns and had a great experience. Thanks for all your help. I was a little scared to try the Priceline thing.

We did priceline for June orientation and got the doubletree and for parents weekend(but had to stay much further out to get cheap price). For the June date, I still booked it at least 2 months out.

We always stay at the Country Inns and Suites near I-10, too, and have had positive experiences. It’s a little bit of a drive to campus, but it’s a straight shot down Tennessee. Plus, you get free breakfast! Just make sure you pack up for the day because you probably won’t want to have to go back to the hotel until you’re ready to stay for the night. I hope you enjoy your visit!

Thank you fsutimes2. I know it’s a little far but I’m familiar with the hotel chain and feel comfortable. Mainly it’s only going to be me (hubby has to work) and S1 and I don’t know the area. How long did it take you to get to campus (time wise)? Thanks.

It probably takes about 15 minutes, although during peak traffic times it might take a little longer. There is a nice Publix nearby, and I think you’ll find the drive in to campus really easy directionally. Have fun, and let us know how things go!

Will do, fsutimes2. I’m hoping it doesn’t take too long to get to the campus. We have the tour at 10:00a.m. I don’t think it will be a problem. Is it in a “nice” neighborhood?

The hotel is very close to I-10, and there are several other hotels nearby. I’ve stayed there with my daughter, and always felt completely safe. There have also been other families staying there when we’ve been there. You’ll want to give yourself plenty of time to get to the campus since you’ll have to find the visitor’s parking lot and center near the stadium. You can always explore a bit if you’re a little early. I’d probably leave by 9:20, but I don’t like to feel stressed when I’m going someplace new :)

@gemini18, I’ve just noticed that there are 2 Country Inns and Suites that are located near I-10. I am speaking about the one on Walden Road. Is that the one that you are staying at?

No, it’s the one on N. Monroe St.

Oh, sorry about that. Just ignore my time suggestions, haha! I’m sure you’ll have a good experience at the Monroe Country Inns and Suites, too.
