Nice restaurants for Valentine's

Where should I bring my girlfriend to for a nice romantic Valentine's dinner? I'm not really familiar with the restaurants on Main St as I'm staying at North. But it doesn't really have to be on Main St though, I can drive anywhere as long as it's not too far. She doesn't eat meat unless it's kosher, so anything seafood is fine. I just want a nice dining atmosphere for Valentine's which won't cost more than $150 if possible.

West End Grill

Real Seafood Comp

the lark (about 40 minutes away)

Why take a chance? Avoid meat altogether, by dining at Seva on Liberty St.

disgusting… not to mention it’s a cheap @ss hippie restaurant. Certainly not a place for a “romantic Valentines dinner”

i’m a fan of eve in kerrytown, but i’ve heard its booked already if you don’t have reservations yet

also, ann arbor doesnt really have “expensive” restaurants, so even for the most pricey places you probably wont go over 150 as long as you dont go for expensive wine, etc

“She doesn’t eat meat unless it’s kosher, so anything seafood is fine.”

You do realize that all shellfish are not kosher right?

Seva is not disgusting bearcats. It is, in fact, a pretty nice restaurant…for vegetarians. This said, it is certainly not a Valentine’s joint! LOL!

I love the Lark and I am impressed that bearcats knows about it. It is one of the best restaurants in the Detroit area. However, the Lark will cost roughly $150/person, not for a couple.

Another nice restaurant in the same area (Farmington Hills) as the Lark is Tribute, which is more contemporary in style and feel. But it also costs roughly $150 per person.

A restaurant that is arguably as good as the Lark is the Rugby Grille, located in the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. At less than $100 per person, this restaurant is significantly cheaper than the Lark.

Closer to Ann Arbor are a bunch of decent (but not great) restaurants such as:

Cafe Bon Homme (Plymouth)
Common Grill (Chelsea)
No. VI Chop House and Lobster Bar (Novi)
West End Grill (Downtown Ann Arbor)

I’ve been to the Lark three times and the quality is consistent. Mr. Lark runs the day to day with his wife so the service is great. The rack of lamb is really good. I had to drive all three times so no wine and the tab was around $100 per person for 5 courses, but the quality is something you would get for around $300 in New York, so I say it’s worth every penny.

Tribute was pretty good, but I like the Lark better.

I have actually been to the rugby grille once and thought the food was rather mediocre.

Something less stuffy/traditional would be ocean prime in troy, runs about $70/person but the food quality is decent but nothing spectacular. Then obviously you have your typical capital grille and morton’s in troy.

Coach Insignia at the top of RenCen is a great place for valentines day. The food/decor/service is actually terrible for a place that calls itself fine dining but it is one of those places that would impress the hell out of someone who hasn’t seen much. I dont know how to explain without sounding like a snob but you get what I mean. It’s cheaper than the other options too.

So if you are willing to shell out a little more, you could do $100/person at the Lark for a great experience (without wine, and since you are driving, I dont think you should drink anyway). Or I would recommend about $70/person at coach insignia for cheap “fine dining”

EDIT: one other thing I really like about the lark… it’s really small… i think it can hold like 30-40 guests, which makes it even better

Tribute closed in September. If you want to stay in Ann Arbor, Gandy Dancer would have a fairly extensive seafood menu. In the Detroit area, Mitchell’s (Birmingham) and Northern Lakes (Bloomfield Hills) are good for seafood.

Ann Arbor also has Gratzi and Palio’s.

i suggest common grill in chelsea, although i wouldnt be surprised if it was pretty booked because people come from all around the area to go there. its very good food, not too expensive (most meals are 15-30 for the main dish). its within 20 minutes too. i cant think of the name, but there is a good italian place on main or liberty, i think main but thats not too useful for you i guess

Honestly AtMostFear, you should take a gander at this website which provides various dining selections that suits each individual’s palette. I have taken advantage of it multiple times when I wanted to take a friend out or that special girl.
