<p>When the new Mansueto library is completed in 2011, the University of Chicago will have the largest collection completely accessible from a single campus of any research library in North America. The new space will feature state-of-the-art preservation and access technology to ensure that all items in its holdings are quickly retrievable. This bucks a popular trend toward moving rarely-used materials off campus or into storage to make way for expansive student study spaces (dubbed “trompe l’oeil” libraries by one critic).</p>
